No luck finding social network plugin for bbpress! But thanks anyway!

I need a developer to make a version of BP with no groups, only a forum, where someone can compose a posting, and when it is submitted be asked to login or register, if not logged in already. It is very important that login/register take place at the backend. I am willing to shell out. Thanks, Roger

Meant to say localhost on local machine (xampp).

Pasted replacement code in buddypress->bp-themes->bp-default->groups->index.php but new member can create a group. I thought that was supposed to be impossible. I am running on localhost, maybe that is why this mod does not seen to work?

Will this make it so that member sees only forums, and in forums a list of “groups” or “themes” or whatever, that have been created by admin/editor? No groups tab in bp default theme. Thanks, Roger

Will this hide the groups tab from all but admins and editors, and get rid of the text in forums that says you must join a group? So that member sees only forums, and in forums a list of “groups” or “themes” or whatever, that have been created by admin/editor? Actually, what would be more than wonderful would be a version of BP without groups altogether, with a panel allowing admin to create themes. Thanks, Roger

No, I would just like to “wrap” the forum in the BP header so that the forum lies below the tabs and site title etc…so a user can navigate back to home, activity, members, etc… As it is now, the forum stands alone and to get back to BP one has to hit the back button.

Can you point me to someone that could do that for me (for a fee of course).

@ r-a-y Looks like I got an external install working. See wonowon.com click tab forums. Is there a template that will allow me to put the forum in the BP header? Many thanks again. Roger

    OK, integrated all I think.

bbpress integration plugin done in WP.

    bbpress itself integrated with WP.

I still do not see the external preexisting bbpress forum. I am thinking that I should see the bbpress forum when I click the buddypress forums tab.

I installed single WP. Then bbpress with data copied from wp-config. Then plugged buddypress in. Opted for external bbpress, then got this message

“Forums were set up correctly using your existing bbPress install!

BuddyPress will now use its internal copy of bbPress to run the forums on your site. If you wish, you can remove your old bbPress installation files, as long as you keep the bb-config.php file in the same location.”

Why does BP say it will now use internal copy, when it just said it will use my existing install????

How does this site run a forum without requiring you to join a group? Is it an external install? The default forum in Buddypress requires that you join a group to post. I do not want that feature.

    Thanks, Roger

r-a-y thanks! Do I need to install Buddypress plugin in single WP to integrate with bbpress?

    Followed

    http://theeasybutton.com/blog/2009/07/17/integrating-buddypress-wordpress-mu-and-bbpress/

    instructions exactly.

Clean install of WP 2.9.2. Installed Buddypress 1.2.1 as plugin and activated. Also activated BuddyPress Default 1.2.1 theme. All seems to be working ok.

    Now from theeasybutton link above:

    1. Download bbPress 1.0.1 (I downloaded 1.0.2)

    2. Unzip it and upload the entire bbpress folder to your root directory.

I uploaded bbpress-1.0.2.zip to root and extracted. I am at Hostgator.

    3. Change the name of the directory from bbpress to forums and chmod it to 777 if it isn’t already.

    Did that.

    4. Go to yoursite.com/forums. “Go to step 1″

Went to wonowon.com/forums and nothing happened. There is no “Go to step 1″

Thanks for advice supporting social networking. I am aiming at persons over 60, who don’t know diddly squat about social networking. Nor do they really care. Get your parents onto Facebook and watch confusion reign, with the end result a big turnoff. We all need to take a step back and realize the audience is not just nerds hooking up.

To make it real simple, I would like a page like the one I am on now, which shows only HOME ABOUT BLOG and FORUMS. Thanks

Peter, many thanks, I got my courage up and edited the
“ed” (list) elements and it worked.

    Note that the first

    • ed element in the default header has to remain attached to the second
    • ed one, so that the activity/blog toggle in the appearances/themes/theme options still works properly.

At least I think this is required.

“I know how to change the order of the tabs/slugs from the header.php in my theme”

How do you do it? Thanks!
