1) Upload Genesis and the GenesisBuddy child theme.
2) Activate the Genesis theme first
3) Then activate GenesisBuddy
4) All theme changes will be done to the child theme.

So far the best option I’ve found are group tags: https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/buddypress-group-tags/
