BP would benefit from some table reduction. Andy and I talked at WordCamp San Fran about how some components would benefit greatly from using the posts table, like Private Messages and Groups. Other components like XProfile would be more tricky and may not see any performance improvements, but would still be doable similar to the […]

John James Jacoby posted on the forum topic Is BuddyPress always SLOW or just on this site? in the group Installing BuddyPress: 14 years, 6 months ago
BuddyPress is very fast on most platforms; it is only this morning that the server this site is running on is experiencing some issues.
http://testbp.org is a better representation of what to expect after installing and turning on BuddyPress.

The $current_site check was put into 1.2.4 when it was meant for 1.3.
It’s been reverted for 1.2.4.1.

John James Jacoby posted on the forum topic Why WordPress + BuddyPress is going to suck! in the group Requests & Feedback: 14 years, 6 months ago
Fact is that not every website needs to be a social network, same as not every site needs to be a blog network. BuddyPress, much like WordPress, shines when you don’t even know you’re using it, and it’s up to good themes to make that happen; something BuddyPress lacks when compared to WordPress. There are […]

A bit afterwards is the goal. 1.2.4 should be 100% WP3.0 compatible though.

John James Jacoby posted on the forum topic bp_user_link doesnโt work anymore? in the group How-To and Troubleshooting: 14 years, 6 months ago
bp_user_link hasn’t been deprecated, but it’s on the chopping block. I think we’ll need to sweep through the functions for 1.3 and strongly define what the _member_/_loggedin_/_displayed_/_user_ function names are inferring. In the past (and currently) some of these were used rather inconsistently. I cleaned some of this up in the branch last…[Read more]

John James Jacoby posted on the forum topic BP 1.2 : problem with bp_profile_group_has_fields() in the group Creating & Extending: 14 years, 6 months ago
@grosbouff For the purpose of your plugin, bp_profile_group_has_fields gets in the way. The purpose of bp_profile_group_has_fields in the default theme, is that it will skip over any group of fields that have no values filled in when inside the profile loop. I think what you want to use is bp_field_has_data(). I also don’t think that this […]

John James Jacoby posted on the forum topic The requested URL /register/ was not found on this server. in the group Installing BuddyPress: 14 years, 6 months ago
Part of the problem might be running BuddyPress in a subdirectory. We use some tricky URI parsing to dynamically trap and trigger the pages that don’t actually exist. To do this, we count the slashes and put the slugs in the “correct” positions, which in your case are one level off. You could .htaccess your […]

You’ll also need to make sure you have Arabic installed for WordPress, and if using multi-site, Arabic must be set as the site language in site wide settings.
