The skeleton theme is a bare-bones HTML theme that exists for you to add your custom CSS to, so yes absolutely go nuts and edit until your heart’s content. :)

I would suggest, however, that if you are new to BuddyPress, that you start off with the Release Candidate rather than 1.0. It will give you a head start on what is coming by the time you’re comfortable enough to go live.

buddypress-es.com exists also. These are basically just people willing to contribute and translate the BuddyPress core for people with native languages other than English.

It’s really a fine line to try and walk, but unless the site is dedicated to only furthering the BuddyPress platform, it’s best not to use it in the domain name.

Even the BuddyPress test site is testbp.com and doesn’t use BuddyPress in the name.

Example: If you made a website, even not for profit, and it had Sony in the name, and you didn’t have written permission from Sony, it wouldn’t be long before you’d get a letter in the mail from their lawyers asking to change it.

What’s the URL that shows up in the my blogs links that you’re clicking?

You can probably copy and paste your way into and out of converting a plugin. They’re very similar. :)

Since there’s no admin panel in the integrated bbPress, you’d be best to try to port those bbPress plugins into a WordPress one, and add any BuddyPress specific features to it.

CSS alone won’t kill anything but padding and margins.

When in doubt, if you can’t retrace your own steps, you can always reinstall and start over.

I’m closing this topic since it’s back from the dead and another one was brought up already too.

This is on the roadmap for 1.4, but may make it in sooner if I can help it. ;)

Well… The short answer would be that if you want all of these domains and subdomains to play nicely, they should be one WPMU installation with the multi-site plugin installed. If that’s not an option (and it sounds like it might not be) then what you described would really be the next best bet, however integrating everything is still tricky as you have two different applications fighting for control of the cookies.

Oooh I see… You’re talking about in the header, not the selectors…

I wonder when those stopped working… Or if they ever did work that way…

I’m fairly certain that they never did work that way, but I’ll give it a look.

If you don’t want to learn it, there are professionals willing to get paid to speed the process and ease your pain.

You could add them via the wordpress admin, but you’ll still need to go back and edit their xprofile display name for them to be “visible” inside BuddyPress.

Activities are created by plugins that add those activities to 1 large table in the database that can be sorted in many ways; user, activity type, etc…

What you would need to do is create a little mini plugin to hook into the bbPress posting actions, and have that generate an activity that you will also need to create.

    It’s easier than it sounds. Check out buddypress/bp-activity/bp-activity-classes.php and… function bp_activity_add( $args = '' ) {in buddypress/bp-activity.php for some direction. :)

It’s working on http://testbp.org/members, which is the latest RC also.

Do you have any other javascript errors on those pages that might be stopping the AJAX from firing?

In reply to: Can I do this..

Yes it’s possible but it will take some integrating with existing WordPress plugins to make it so. Best place to start with BP specific code is the codex; http://codex.buddypress.org

I’m trying to add a little to it everyday if I find the time, so it should keep getting more and more documented with code snippits and examples.

@grosbouff, since that bit of AJAX exists in the theme, you’re welcome to modify it to fit what you need it to do. I’d recommend grabbing the RC now also since some of the AJAX has changed since beta.

@wordpressfan, yes go ahead and copy the files over from the parent theme into your child theme, and modify from there. Anything in your child theme will override the files from the parent.

In this version of the plugin, the comments act exactly like the wire does currently, which is to say text only for now.

If you are already using Beta1.1 and just want to update to the newer trunk version, overwriting files and visiting the site admin area should be sufficient, but as always listen to what Andrea_r says and back-back-back it up. :D

    I’ll confirm what Andy said.

From my tests the new cropper tool in BP1.1 is better in about every imaginable way.

My response from the other topic:

That’s the way it is working currently. Stickies are basically excluded from the directory loop at the moment while Andy figures a way to handle them properly. There’s nothing wrong with your installation.

Site looks great and works good too.

This is a really good usage of BP.

    Same as with 1.0.x.

There are endless topics discussing how to do it, and a sticky to help you with integration.

    @johnjamesjacoby

Sounds like you didn’t move the files over correctly if it’s still saying 1.0.3. The version number is taken directly from the buddypress/bp-loader.php file itself, so if the file is correct, then so is the plugin.
