You will have to have a separate theme for your subdomain, and hard-code the links to go back to your root domain.
The way I did this, was to have a “buddypress-home” theme, and a “buddypress-sub” theme. The sub theme is basically a copy of all of the files from the “buddypress-home” theme, but without home.php, an edited style.css to change the name of the style, and a modified header.php which I will explain below.
The home theme is activated only for the root blog, the sub theme for all others.
In the header.php file for the sub blogs, I used
$bp->root_domainas the destination for each link, plus whatever slug was appropriate (MEMBERS_SLUG, BP_GROUPS_SLUG, BP_BLOGS_SLUG).I also went ahead and made the BP_BLOGS_SLOG link
class="selected"right away, that way when you’re in a sub blog, the appropriate tab is always shown as selected.In reply to: BP Avatars in bbPressBurt have you tested this with each specific type of field in the xprofile area? With quotes and what not?
I’m going to make a clean install of BuddyPress on my test domain and see if I can duplicate this. I’d really like to know what I did that’s breaking it.
Sub directories work just fine, at least so far for me anyhow.
It looks to me like in the path to your root blog, the “/” got replaced with “base”
Go to Site admin
Click on Blogs.
Click on “Edit” on your main blog.
Next to “Path” in that text box, it should say “/” and I bet it says “base”
That’s my guess.

If I’m wrong, lets look in your wp-config.php file for something similar.

In reply to: BP Avatars in bbPressI basically started going through what changes were made to your plugin since it last worked, and started replacing code block by block. Once I could debug the XML request, it gave me some eyes in the back of my head so to speak, to watch what I couldn’t otherwise see.
So basically, it sounds like there is something in the xprofile field, and/or something in some users meta info that the XML parser just doesn’t like, so it gets caught up and returns a crappy value? Is that a good guess? You think it’s time to just rip through the user meta and see if anything looks suspicious?
Here’s a question. What if there are users that haven’t yet updated their profiles in BuddyPress? They were converts from a wordpress.org install, and if they haven’t returned since then, BuddyPress doesn’t have a “fullname” for them yet, and they also don’t have xprofile info. Could that break this somehow? Is there a way to watch this user by user and have it spit out an error when it finds a bad value?
Also, just for the record. I’m using BuddyPress RC1, bbPress Alpha6, and WPMU2.7. Is it possible there was a trunk update that you’re using that I’m not that maybe gives you different results than me?
More specifically, if I comment out line 335 in oci_bp_groups_forums.php…
//$user['xprofile_' . $group->name . '_' . $field_obj->name] = array('group' => $group->name, 'name' => $field_obj->name, 'value' => $field_obj->data->value, 'type' => $field_obj->type);And run the group import, it works without error as well.
If I put a switch on the $field_obj-> name…
switch ($field_obj->name) {…and only retrieve the custom title and forum signature, the groups import also works (still not for all users though, only groups.) I think it may be tripping over a specific type of field. I’m going to guess the textarea field, but that’s totally a blind guess with no merit or motive what-so-ever.
In reply to: BP Avatars in bbPressOkay, if I do it with the all members checked and with your debug and die method, I get an out of memory error every time.

if I comment out…
add_filter('oci_get_user','oci_get_xprofile_filter',10,1);And run the group import tool for Groups only, it works exactly like it should (without any xprofile info of course
)If I run it for all users, I no longer get an out of memory error, but it does come back and give me a parse error.
I consider that progress. The connection is definitely good. They’re talking back and forth. I must just have some gummed up user info that’s messing with the parsing of the XML return? Does that make sense?
I do have 3 pages of xprofile info per user for it to import, so I mean there is the potential for there to be alot of info back and forth.
In reply to: BP Avatars in bbPressOkay, so I dipped into phpMyAdmin and deleted ALL bbpress live info, all bbGroups info, and uninstalled all of the plugins completely to get back to 0.
I installed all of the plug ins. Confirmed that BuddyPress could see the bbPress forums. Created a topic, verified on both sides that it was updating. All successful communication from both directions.
Then, I installed 3.0 of the bbGroups plugin. All of the previous stuff that was working, still works.
bbGroups .3 still will not import any group data.
Reverted back to .24, clicked import. Success with no other modifications other than replacing the 3 plug in files.
In reply to: BP Avatars in bbPressNeither option imports when using 3.0. Import all nor groups. When I click on “Import Groups” the browser thinks, then just refreshes the screen with no feedback, errors, anything…
If I do your above debug, I seem to get a good response…

I get the feeling I need to flush all of the previous bbGroups info out of the DB and start fresh…
In reply to: BP Avatars in bbPressMy process above was using deep integration. Even if an XMLRPC request looks for the xmlrpc.php in the bbpress install directory, it still loads bb-load.php, which loads bb-config.php, which loads all of wordpress before proceeding to load the remainder of bbpress. If an XMLRPC request is being made from buddypress to bbpress (like when viewing a group forum from within BP), I don’t want to reload all of buddypress again invisibly, if that makes sense?
That’s why I did…
if ( !defined('ABSPATH') & !defined('XMLRPC_REQUEST')) {in bb-config.php, to prevent reloading ALL of wpmu and bp just for a quick xmlrpc peek.
What I don’t get is why it works in every version but this new one.
In reply to: BP Avatars in bbPressFor deep integration I’ve found that using the absolute path to the file works the best. I use this in bb-config.php…
if ( !defined('ABSPATH') & !defined('XMLRPC_REQUEST')) {
include_once( '/homepages/8/d149961498/htdocs/delsolownersclub/wp-blog-header.php' );
}Now I know what you’re going to say, and I’ve also tried it with and without the second check for XMLRPC_REQUEST with what seems to be little or no change. Remember before in the other topic, because the XMLRPC is including both ways, which means including both plugins, it was getting an error message of duplicating functions, even with the other two checks in there.
Basically if you’re in bbPress, it includes WP, which includes XMLRPC, which then continues to load bbPress which tries to load XMLRPC. When the XMLRPC request goes through from BBP to WP, it hits up a new BBP page, which loads WP again, to do all the PW checks, and I feel like all of these circular inclusions and requests are spinning me around and I’m chasing my tail. What I’m trying to do is avoid deep integration if an XMLRPC request is taking place, that way BBP is just BBP when XMLRPC is taking place.
Is it safe to delete all the bbpress_live entries in the database too? What should I all delete from the DB to start from square one and give this another try?

In reply to: register PageMy guess is a directory setting thinks that the BuddyPress install is located in “http://nishinomiya.jp/” so it tries to hit “http://nishinomiya.jp/register”. But something also is weird with the blog, because it looks like clicking on “Blog” takes us to a page, that isn’t a blog. Can you still have your blog be a static page with BuddyPress and MU? I suppose you could eh? Neat!
Strangely, I can type “http://nishinomiya.jp/ebi/wp-signup.php” directly into the browser and get there just fine, sans any sidebars of course.
I’ve never tried to access that file directly, are you supposed to be able to do that? Ha!
I’m curious what his functions.php looks like…
In reply to: BP Avatars in bbPressSorry for all of the thinking out loud, just trying to keep you in the loop with everything as much as I can. Burt would you rather I post this here or on your own forums? I just now thought that maybe this isn’t the best place to debug this together?
I’m off to bed but plan on attacking this more tomorrow. Thanks again for your help and generosity with this.
In reply to: BP Avatars in bbPressIf I revert back to .22 of the oci_bp_group_forums.php file, it imports the groups just fine. The problem is on that side somewhere.
Problem is I don’t know how to debug oci_server_get_all_groups because it’s called inside the xmlrpc request, and no amount of echo’ing or var_dumping actually die’s anything.
In reply to: BP Avatars in bbPressUpdated all passwords, still no luck. I had hoped this was the issue and actually deleted the data from the oci_groups_forums field in the DB and reset it. Did the same on the BP side also, and changed the user PW.
Is it possible you’re comparing a plain text password to a MD5’ed password and they’re not the same?
You said something about Sam saving the PW in meta data? Maybe I’m being a bit daft but I don’t have any plug ins from Sam that require saving a PW anywhere? I have your plugin on the bbPress side saving to site meta but that’s doing just fine now.
In reply to: BP Avatars in bbPressLine 395 of oci_bb_group_forums.php..
I’m going to go mobile for a bit, but will be back this evening to keep at this.
In reply to: BP Avatars in bbPressIf I don’t dump any variables, then nothing…
Basically the
if ( !$client->query( $method, $args ) ) {returns nothing…If I trace that back to “oci_server_get_all_groups” in the oci_bp_ side, and it never gets anything.
My guess is that this all has to do with the deep integration part… And that your code is fine and my connection is crap…
It’s weird tho, because I can post/retrieve in group forums no problem. Which means that the connection between the two sides is fine, right?
If I uncomment the var_dump as to why, I get…

Still trying to get the import to work…
When I uncomment the `
var_dump($groups_n_users); die;`
I get…

Still looking…

inside oci_bb_xmlrpc_query(), I get
array(3) { [0]=> string(4) "dsoc" [1]=> NULL [2]=> int(0) }dsoc is the name of my user, but it looks like the PW is empty?

}Now I’ve typed and retyped my PW twice. I can get post data from bbPress to BuddyPress, and I can post from BuddyPress and see it in bbPress. It’s communicating back and forth successfully…
Looks like it isn’t updating the PW to me for some reason… brb
K… Deleting the line from the DB and resaving the bbGroups options info, still makes the PW = NULL or nothing… Looks like it’s stopped saving the PW somewhere.
