WordPress Origin Story

Khefa Nosakhere established kalimba Publishing in 2007 and named in it honor of the cultural, spiritual and musical brilliance of Maurice White – the founder of Earth, Wind & Fire. Despite all of the incredible hits they produced – the tale “kalimba story” (released by Columbia Records in 1974) resonated because it is a simple West African thumb piano that represents so much given the way White presented it in concert and in the studio.

kalimba Publishing is the literary home of our founder, as well as a consulting business for startups and established companies. Khefa is an adjunct English professor, a former high school English teacher, an author, and a mentor. Some of his creative and literary influences are Maurice White, Chuck D, Chaka Khan, Curtis Mayfield, Langston Hughes, Jack Kirby, August Wilson, Richard Wright, Billy Wilder and Picasso.
