Thanks!
I’ve been clicking, on this page and have different results, so it may be server load or on the server side.
I’m going to close this.
Featured Content *could* be part of Jetpack, come to think of it. I’m too tired to go look right now.
I will try the patch! (Tomorrow!)
Thanks!
Thanks @r-a-y !
I think I’m going to leave all as is for a while. Having the activity stream as a secondary page solves a few other problems as well.
I can’t find where to edit the size of the images in the Members widget. I looked in the theme CSS, BuddyPress CSS and Members-Widget.php and the theme functions to no avail. I’m just going to leave it.
Thanks!
“Featured Content” is part of the the Twenty-Fourteen out of the box theme. One can opt for a slider or super large thumbnails.
You can see it at artist-at-large.com if you go look right now (I’m currently looking at the CSS.) I currently have the front page set to show blog posts.
Thank you @moderator re: the CSS.
OH, WAIT A MINUTE … I see what it does.
I have my site set with a static front page, which is the Activity Stream page, and the blog posts are reached via the navigation bar.
Prior to upgrading the BuddyPress plugin to 2.2.0, my front page was the Activity page AND I had six Featured Posts/stickies just under the header. (This is the way I want it to act).
After upgrading the BuddyPress plugin to 2.2.0, if the front page is the Activity page, then the Featured Posts/stickies go missing, so only the Activity Stream shows up underneath the header. But if I make the Activity Stream a secondary page and put the blog posts back out front, then the Featured Posts/stickies are under the header. Not quite what I want.
I’m tentatively saying that it may have been Google Analytics … I deactivated Google Analytics and reactivated BuddyPress and it seems to be working.
I found that last night right before I fell asleep and am just now getting online for the day – I will experiment a little with the plugin to see if I can figure it out.
1. Yes, I did do the bulk plugin update and one of them was Contact Form 7 and the other was Google Analytics. But deactivating Buddypress was the only one that brought the Featured Posts back as they should be – I had the Activity Stream on my front page but switched it out last night since it ended up being blank (because of the deactivation).
2. I have six sticky/Featured Posts – the posts themselves did not disappear, just the six stickies that sat just below the header.
3. I had a post go a tiny bit viral yesterday so instead of mucking with it, I just deactivated the BuddyPress plugins that I have installed.
4. The URL is artist-at-large.com As I work on this today, things will appear and disappear.
5. I’ve never had problems before with the bulk updater.
6. The spacing on the widget that gives a list of members is also spaced all zig-zaggy. I usually keep that in the footer.
OK!
I see it now.
If I send a message to one member it shows up in their site inbox and I get an email.
OK, I guess I was confused about how the messaging and notification system work.
Yes that’s it exactly (there’s really only one way to send messages), except that I have a box that says “This is a notice to all users.” which I tick and then write the message and then send.
I check that it’s been sent by going to another browser and logging in from one of my test accounts that doesn’t have admin status.
After logging in the message is displayed under the login area.
If I go immediately to my profile and look under the Messages tab, which says “Messages (0), there is nothing new there under the inbox. It is also not sending out an email to tell members that they have received a notification – this all used to work on the site pre-1.7 when I was using 1.5, so I know what it is supposed to do.
I’m using the latest versions of Firefox and Chrome.
Yes it works!
Thanks!
Thank You, @mercime
I’m trying it out now.
Can Someone PLEASE tell me how to stop the pop-up notification text box from happening?
If someone can at least tell me which file to look in, that would be a nice start. I want to eliminate this “feature” altogether, since the last notification is always printed below the login area anyway. No need for it to be printed out twice.
You can see my examples of this here:
http://www.artist-at-large.com/activity
Or are those font sizes controlled in the theme’s CSS?
I guess I should have said I want to DISABLE the text box all together. Get rid of it.
So I need to know where this exists in the code so I can delete it, or disable it.
I know how to close the text box via the repeated text message underneath the login area. The placement of the text box doesn’t allow for accessing the drop down menus in the navigation bar.
This is hindering my non-techie users from using the site.
Thanks!
Any idea in which file this text box is sitting so I can get rid of it?
Thanks!
Yes, I don’t have the energy to go searching. This version of BP (1.7.1) has worked pretty much out of the box this time, so I’m not going to fiddle with it too much and I’m going to focus more on the membership drive.
The text size only became an issue when one of my users started a conversation by using the “Comment” button underneath her joining activity update – which then made the whole conversation in tiny type. It was easier to just have the conversation there than try and move it to the status update area.
I really need a fix for this – or at least the name of the page where I can start looking for the fix.
Come to think of it, I don’t need the text box at all, because the latest notification/message is always printed out underneath the login area.
So, where exactly to get rid of the text box?
That might be an easier fix.
Oh, and I should say, that the message is also printed underneath the login/logged in area, and that “Close” link DOES work. When that “Close” link is clicked and the message disappears from underneath the login area, the orange box also disappears.
You can see the orange text box and the “Close” link. The CSS hover works, it just doesn’t do anything.
If I send a message to myself, I do not get the orange text box.
If I send the message to “Everyone”, everyone gets the orange text box.
I’m seeing similar behavior, using Tetris theme.
One has to be logged in, and have a notification message waiting for them, to be able to see it.
I haven’t been able to see any scripting errors, but next time the orange box appears I will try and check that out.
I’ve also noticed a similar thing happen here on the buddypress.org site, when I try to search the forms a huge red box extends down over the header and over the first search result.
Beautiful!
Thank you @mercime !
Thanks @mercime !
#sidebar .item-avatar img.avatar { float: left; margin: 0 10px 10px 0; width: 40px; height: auto; }
Worked with a little finangle. (Tetris is using footer-widget instead of sidebar)
