    You’re welcome, thanks for sharing that link and I’m glad you got it sorted 🙂

    Hi Jaime,

    Sounds like a theme issue for sure! You can verify this by using bp-default theme as well just to make 100% sure your bp install isn’t corrupt.

    Can you share with us what theme you’re using? I’d like to have a look and see if I can get that link for you.

    What do you want to do with the results the search plugin is going to do, and may I ask what you are trying to accomplish? Just not 100% sure what you mean by “search plugin” in the context you’ve provided.

    FYI: Blank page using PHP means a Syntax Error 99% of the time, so error logs will have that for sure.

    I have both pages loaded up on my dual monitors, #buddypress is missing, just checked for a second some other things could be missing too. Click the imgur link below to see what I mean.
    See the difference?

    This is not a PHP issue, it is more a CSS html issue..

    Looks like #buddypress is missing in the DOM. Check your file and make sure you put that in there.

    A great plugin that I use (is free) that has greatly reduced registration spamming is WANGUARD (check it out here: https://wordpress.org/plugins/wangguard/) works great with buddypress and bbpress

    Can you confirm that you are able to receive any email from your server at all? We need to know if your server is the problem or if there is something wrong with your website. The only way to tell is to see if you can send yourself an email from the server like a comment notification or a form being filled out type test.

    If you’re 100% sure it’s something to do with the website, then you need to take a look at your server logs (if using apache check access_log and error_log) and see if anything pops up during a new user sign up.

    What is your server configuration? What type of system? Have you checked if there is a bottleneck anywhere? Have you tried rebooting your server?

    Just some thoughts. Check the error log if you can!

    Ah I just read the last paragraph (I should do that from now on, sorry!)

    Can you look at your error logs?

    It prob is using a new php.ini file, which by default 5.4 doesn’t allow <? ?> you have to use <?php ?>, that’s something it could be.

    honestly without looking at your error logs its a best guess.

    Your website is loading here. This might be something to do with your browser cache, or DNS resolver (perhaps they MIGRATED you to another server with php 5.4 on it? most likely!!)

    You can follow this tutorial to set your DNS to google’s servers which is guaranteed to be faster than your ISP:

    Yes this is very easy to do.

    Adding the featured image of a wordpress post into a buddypress activity stream can be done by doing one of the following. I’d like to add that I had trouble finding out how to do this at first and it took a lot of searching. The first copypasta I have for you was actually found on these very forums. However, due to so many people asking this question (and not getting answers) it is buried and very difficult to find. So without further ado please enjoy…

    You can either edit the activity page activity/entry.php or just copy paste the following function into your functions.php file.

    function icondeposit_bp_activity_entry_meta() {

        if ( bp_get_activity_object_name() == 'blogs' && bp_get_activity_type() == 'new_blog_post' ) {?>
            <?php
            global $wpdb, $post, $bp;
            $theimg = wp_get_attachment_image_src(  get_post_thumbnail_id( bp_get_activity_secondary_item_id() ) );
            ?>
            <img src="<?php echo $theimg[0]; ?>" >

        <?php }

    }
    add_action('bp_activity_excerpt_append_text', 'icondeposit_bp_activity_entry_meta');

    If you want further customization, I recommend editing activity/entry.php

    You’re welcome!

    I think actions have merit, I just am not used to using them. The theme I’m working on is at http://www.hvac-hacks.com – and I love to just copy the bp files over and customize them myself. That being said, I’m annoyed right now because bp was written in such a way that makes it hard to customize without using actions/filters LOL.

    I’m trying to figure out how to access raw data from BP without using them. Kind of like how you can do that using the $post->array . Just wish bp was more like wp sometimes. Maybe I’m missing stuff, did post something, this is off topic. anyway, good luck hope you get it!

    You may want to try creating a blank page that is top of the template hierarchy. For example you could throw in a page.php in activity/single or in /activity and see what happens.

    Hi Cassey,

    When I look in my buddypress folder, I see <?php do_action( ‘bp_before_directory_activity’ ); ?> is in /activity/index.php

    I see <?php do_action( ‘bp_before_directory_members_page’ ); ?> is located in /members/index.php

    I hope this helps!

    BP can be very strange sometimes. Did you copy bp-legacy over? One of the things I did to make changes in the beginning was turn files into blank pages to see what happened. Also there is a document that may help: https://codex.buddypress.org/themes/theme-compatibility-1-7/template-hierarchy/

    that doc explains how BP looks for files and grabs info. I had a huge problem took a long time to find it and it was very simliar to yours (I had to find the title of members pages as it was breaking the pages for some reason, found it by copying the bp-legacy over and guessing which files they were haha, took forever, hope you find this faster than I did.)

    Definitely a theme issue.

    Using chrome, right click on the broken buttons and look at the inspector. You should then see the css that is causing the issue. Then you can change the css with an override or w/e.

    I’m not familiar with the theme you’re using, but if you give me URL to your site I can take a look and see.

    Hi,

    I’m not familiar with those themes, but I feel it is safe to assume that they have functions that are overriding, hooking, or filtering through wp upload actions. The only thing I can think of is cracking open the themes functions.php file and look for any functions in there that hook into any wp functions with these keywords in them: attachment,thumbnail,image,upload

    I’d comment out any functions you find (one at a time) until the issue is resolved.

    Not familiar with genesis framework, but it might be worth investigating if it does anything to change how wp handles uploads.

    Forgot to add, a theme could also be causing a conflict. So if just bp and bp_x don’t play nice with everything else disabled, then try a default theme (default buddypress or wp 2012 for example)

    @matt-mcfarland

    Participant

    The best way to troubleshoot this issue, is to disable all of the plugins, then turn on buddypress, then secondly turn on buddypress extended profiles.

    If just bp and bp extended work fine, then the problem is another plugin is not playing nice with buddypress or bp extended.

    You can then just turn one plugin on at a time until the error occurs. Once you find the faulty plugin, then you can isolate exactly which plugins are not playing nice with buddypress(or vice versa)

    The only thing you can do after that, is figure out where the conflict is. Doing that, requires programming knowledge.

    Before re-installing WordPress, you should crack open phpmyadmin, go to wp_options, and clear out your plugins field. this will disable buddypress, and should re-open your site. then you can fix what you did 🙂

    Hi there,

    Did you try creating a blank page called “Community Lounge”, then going to the buddypress settings dashboard, and selecting that blank page you just made for the activity stream?

    If it’s still spitting out “Sitewide Activity” – then here’s what you can do:

    THE LONG WAY:
    Step 1: create a blank folder in your theme called “buddypress”
    Step 2: copy all the files over from wp-content/plugins/templates/bp-legacy/ to your new buddypress folder.
    Step 3: jump to your new buddypress folder. go to yourtheme/buddypress/activity/index.php and you should see something like “<h3><?php _e( ‘Sitewide Activity’, ‘buddypress’ ); ?></h3>”
    Step 4: change it 🙂

    The SHORT WAY:

    Hacking time! Right click on Sitewide activity, and use your inspector in chrome or firefox, what ID or class is it? set that to display: none, then throw in your own title above that via html.

    You can probably do this using some filter or action hook, but I dont know much about those.
