I have tried everything A to Z to stop spam registration. They all work for a while, but as the site grows it is overwhelmed. I think David100351 is correct people fill out the registration and hand it to bot drones. If anyone has successfully got this under control for a big site let me know as it makes it more work than it is worth.
WordPress is brilliant with anti-spam but have not had the same results with Buddypress. I am thankful for all the work people have done with BuddyPress and know they will say it is an MU problem, but I just want to use BuddyPress without spending so much time fighting spam. Anyone else tried wangguard?

1and1 works fine with WordPress. I run a number of sites with 1and1 not an issue, only MU does not work. I know this is marked resolved :) I have been testing Buddypress and MU for a while now, and It has nothing to do with BuddyPress. It is an MU issue with 1and1

Paul, thanks for your patience and guidance. At this juncture I am going to say it is a WP/MU issue and not a BuddyPress issue. I will close this thread. Thanks.

It worked until I tried to create or update a post.

Fatal error: Call to undefined function is_subdomain_install() in /homepages/18/d95001024/htdocs/languagesocial/wp-admin/includes/ms.php on line 703

I am sorry for all the trouble, I assume it must be something I have done. I carefully went over all the steps in the new install.

I still think it might be something I have done, but thought I would put it out there just in case others are having the same issues.

I started everything 100% from scratch, database and all and it seems to work now.

If MU and SU merge in 3.0 what does this mean for Buddypress. Maybe I should wait? Does this mean there will be no separate download and installs?
