There was a plugin for BP 1.5.1 https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/buddypress-activity-stream-hashtags/ Not tested if it works for BP 1.6.1

@fonemi Have not encountered this before but I would go first with removing the “buddypress” tag from your theme’s style.css file. Which WP theme are you using with the BP template pack plugin?
