You would need to create a plugin for that private diary/blog and look at how it’s done in BuddyPress Docs plugin.

That is solved by searching online. One search result shows this: http://www.dynamicdrive.com/style/csslibrary/item/solid_block_menu/. You can opt to use background color instead of images. Adjust to taste

The weird thing is that links to the BP components pages like forums and groups are working while your regular WP Pages are not working.

Wait, did you make those Pages > “Private” in Page Write/Edit Panel? That’s one scenario which could cause that behavior.

This is a Suffusion theme and Suffusion BP Pack issue. I’m sure that such behavior won’t appear if you deactivate Suffusion and its BP Pack. Which wootheme are you using? Are you using the BP Template Pack with the WP theme or are you using their BP-compatible theme?

Did you check if the theme has just before closing body and html tags near bottom of footer.php file?
