Yeah true, I’ve just always tried to steer away from using ready made plug-ins wherever possible. Most things can be done with a few lines of code in your functions.php file.

Saying that there are some on that list that most certainly are brilliant and required but the one that is confusing me is :

    WP Symposium Toolbar

I thought WP Symposium was a rival social platform plug in to BP?
I can’t imagine they are going to play nicely together although i’m not speaking from experience so could be totally wrong.

Haha yep, twenty twelve is a great starting point. I use it for most things as it’s very easy to work with and has a good basic structure. Yep, the responsive side of it sucks, it’s a real mess, but like you say it can be fixed. 😉

Well my first question is up, i’m sure it will be the first of many lol!

Ooofff, as mentioned above, that is a HUGE list of plug-ins.

I’m not surprised that something is conflicting as you have a few things there that could be altering rewrite rules.

Your best bet is to disable all the other plug ins and see if if BP works after a permalink update. If so then you’re gonna have to start reactivating the plug-ins one at a time until the issue arises again.

Just in case you do lose access to update your permalink structure from the admin panel you can always do it via the database :

    Hope you find your solution!

Very interested in this plug-in but have a couple of questions.

    1) Are users notified when an event they plan to attend is about to start?

    2) I know it says on the plug-in page that there is no support for recurring events but this is something that would be critical for the way i’d be using the plug-in so is there any chance that this will be supported in future versions (pro or free) and if not is it something that I could commission you to add for me?

    Many thanks!

P.S. I Think I posted this in the wrong forum, could an admin please move it to a more relevant one if possible and I promise to be more careful in the future 😉

I should add that i’ve got a part of it working by echoing the following where I want it to appear but it’s obviously just echoing the numerical count and I want the full functionality of the BP notification tab with links and descriptions of the items.

    echo bp_notifications_get_unread_notification_count( bp_loggedin_user_id() );

@mcpeanut Thanks for your reply and, as you said, the best way to learn is to dive in, which is what i’m doing 😉

I’ve had a brief glance through the codex and although i’m sure everything I need is there, as a BP newbie some examples of how to implement the things discussed (like it is on the WP codex) would be a great help.

Theme wise, I’ve managed to get it running with a child of Twenty Twelve, as it looked horrific on any of the newer WP themes – “twenty fifteen! – what were they thinking?”, and apart from a few styling issues everything seems to work.

Now it’s just a case of figuring out how it all works so I can start playing with it! I’m sure in a couple of months time I’ll know it inside and out but for now it does seem like a pretty steep learning curve.
