To be honest, I found the reference to being spammy a little harsh… that’s all, because I hate spammers! I only posted the link to my topic as it was on the same topic and offered a different solution. I guess everyone has a certain tolerance before something becomes spammy, but given I just posted a link in one topic I thought it was ok.

  Depending on your intention it could be quite rude to hijack a thread like that. In any forum. Seemed a bit like standing inside a McDonalds as a Burger King employee, telling people that the whopper tastes so much better than a big mac and drawing them a map to the next Burger King.   I’m afraid a hijack it was, putting a link in the post tended to harden that fact. generally hijacking or taking a thread off tangent is any post or comment that deviates from the original OP’s starting post

Yup I had this problem too. Thanks for the solutions. As with any wordpress issue, remove the plugins and themes (and maybe rename the mu-plugins folder) and things should be back to “normal”. My issue in particular was to do with a plugin in the mu-plugins folder, remember to check that one too!

I don’t think this works anymore…. I believe activity streams now don’t cut the text anymore, so this becomes a little pointless 🙂

I may discontinue this or change this into a plugin that cuts long wire streams with an ajax feature to expand it… any takers?
