pcwriter posted on the forum topic Can't access wordpress admin after installing buddy press. in the group How-To and Troubleshooting: 14 years, 1 month ago
Yes, it is a common issue… and almost always plugin or theme related.
Follow the advice given by @hnla to troubleshoot your install.
Start by deactivating your custom theme to see if that’s the problem.
If not, then deactivate all plugins, and reactivate them one by one to track it down. -

@ithacaindy Yes, the theme will support custom menus via the addition of my Add-All-Nav-Links-to-BP-Adminbar plugin. https://buddypress.org/community/groups/add-all-nav-links-to-bp-adminbar/ http://nowrecovery.com/justfunstuff/add-all-nav-links-to-bp-adminbar/ The original idea for this theme, and the reason I’m developing it, was to help make…[Read more]

That’s an excellent suggestion and should be rather simple to add to the next version.

@aikighost Yes, all these things are possible with Buddypress. There are a great many plugins designed specifically for the BP environment that can enable you to build a powerful community. For your specific needs, it may be necessary to do a bit of custom coding, but here are a few examples to get you started:…[Read more]

I’d love to help out on this, but it’s beyond my present coding skills. Sorry.
Keep a good eye on what @boonebgorges is posting though. He knows his stuff 🙂 -

@mark211 To be able to use all features of the plugin in your theme, you need to remove ALL references to bp-default. To adjust the horizontal offset, you need to open bp-wp-navbar.php and find the following function:
function offset_navbar_horiz() { ?>
Change:#bp-default #wp-admin-bar .padder {left: px;}
…to:#wp-admin-bar .padder {left: px;}

Yes: child-theme of bp-default.
child-theme/header calls child-theme/style.css and child-theme/custom.css
child-theme/style.css imports bp-default/style.cssSo if I remove the background property from, say div#container in child-theme/style.css, it gets that background from bp-default. Then if I add the background property to…[Read more]

Thanks for your suggestion too, but I also tried on my local install with no plugins activated except Buddypress.
I’ll try again tomorrow with a fresh look. -

@travel-junkie Thanks for a quick reply! But alas, your suggestion is to no avail… I removed the background property from div#container in style.css so it defaults to bp-default/_inc/css/default. Then added background:#eeeeee !important; to div#container in custom.css. Doesn’t change. I even tried zeroing in on the div from the highest level:…[Read more]

@mark211 Sorry for taking so long, I must have overlooked this post. 1 – Could you post a link to your site so I can take a look? 2 – Unfortunately, that isn’t possible with WP custom menus the way they’re set up now: menu titles can’t be linked. Nor can it be done with the […]

Hi all, I need a hand with something that’s bugging me. I’m working on a theme with a bunch of cool (imho) features, including widgetized front page/footer, and a fully-commented custom.css file with several color/border properties that can be customized. The problem I’ve run into is that I can’t, for the life of me, get […]

The “Recent Site Wide Posts” widget pulls the latest posts from a multisite install.
To get the Activity Stream on your front page, go to “Settings” > “Reading” and check Front page displays, then select Activity stream from the dropdown.

@electron88 Milestone 1.2.6 had a target date of 08/02/10. Notice the term “target”. It happens to us all now and then to miss a target. Now imagine, if you will, several dozen kind folks collaborating on a huge coding project with input and wild ideas from several HUNDRED others. In such a scenario, it is highly […]

pcwriter posted on the forum topic Menu location help in the group Add All Nav Links to BP Adminbar: 14 years, 1 month ago
@khull808 Aha! The problem you’re having with your background has nothing to with the plugin. What you’ve done is set an image with a fixed-width as your background. If you view a page on a monitor with a greater width or resolution than the one you built your site on, you’ll get the extra background color […]

@MrMaz I am grateful to you and the rest of the community for all the contributions that are made free of charge. This is extremely important to help startups get going, and it’s one of the elements that make WP/BP such a popular, successful and powerful combination. However, I do believe a paycheck is eventually due […]
