In reply to: Letting the user upload a custom background?
Thanks. I’ll give those additional snippets a try tomorrow
In reply to: Common buddypress bar across multisiteIn reply to: Letting the user upload a custom background?Nice job… works great! You da man… as usual

Maybe an update could include an option to have the chosen background image stay fixed on screen or scroll with pages?In reply to: BP dont show barDid you remember to remove the code you added to wp-config.php as per the plugin instructions?
`define( ‘BP_DISABLE_ADMIN_BAR’, true );`
In reply to: Not Displaying CorrectlyGlad it helped
In reply to: need to edit the title under signup pageRather than editing core files and losing those changes when you upgrade Buddypress, the safer route is to create a language file for customized messages.

In reply to: Not Displaying CorrectlyFor your sidebar widget issue, @hnla is right: contacting the theme author is probably the best route.
For the 503 message quoted above, that looks like suspiciously like one I got recently on one of my sites, which turned out to be a setting in the s2member plugin. If you’re using that plugin (and I suspect you are), check the “Unique IP Access Restrictions” setting under “s2member” > “General Options” in your WP backend. If you have that setting set to, say, 5 different IPs per customer, and more that 5 nice folks on this forum try to help you by accessing your test account (from different IPs obviously), the warning will be triggered. If you don’t want that warning to display to your site members who may use several different machines to access your site, you can set it to a higher number or disable it altogether (“Allow Infinite IPs”).
In reply to: BP Show mentionsI’ve tried this plugin and have noticed a few hiccups also (like message notifications that don’t go away). Bugs are to be expected in new plugins, so it’s best to contact the plugin author about the problem.
In reply to: enhanced categories sidebar widgetSure is! Add the following to your stylesheet:
div#enhanced-categories ul li {
display:inline-block;
width:49%;
vertical-align:top;
}display:inline-block sets the li items up side-by-side as long as width is less than 50%. vertical-align:top ensures that each li item stays aligned at the top when the other is expanded (try without the vertical-align to see the difference).
To make your css learning curve a lot easier, install the Firebug for Firefox addon. You can play around with various settings on any web page (even if it’s not yours) until you get the look you want, then simply copy the style rules to your stylesheet and upload. http://getfirebug.com/
Hope this helps!

EDIT: if you add a 3rd main category, you’ll need to set width to 33% or less to accommodate it on the same line, or leave it at 49% if you want them in 2 columns (I’m guessing that’s how it’ll display).
There’s also this plugin that’s supposed to work with BP: https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wp-activate-users/
And the code snippet in this thread works very well (I’ve used it): https://buddypress.org/community/groups/how-to-and-troubleshooting/forum/topic/get-non-activated-users/Did you try closing the window or tab, and then simply clicking the email link again?
Joining a site running Buddypress can be as simple or as convoluted as you want to make it for potential members. There are quite a few plugins that can be implemented for captchas; authentification via other networks like Facebook, Google, etc; profile synchronization with other networks; custom login pages and much more. An example of the basic BP account creation process can be found on one of my sites here: http://buddylite.com/register/
The only thing I’ve added to the default registration process on BuddyLite is a simple math captcha called Buddypress Humanity: https://buddypress.org/community/groups/buddypress-humanity/
You can see a working example of one front-end post solution called TDO-Mini-Forms on the same site here: http://buddylite.com/buddybuilder-style-submission/ and the end results here: http://buddylite.com/category/custom-buddybuilder-styles/
You’ll need to login as a test user to see the form though… user = buzzer / pass = hellobirdieOn another site I’m currently working on, you can see an example of another front-end post form called Quick Post Widget: https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/quick-post-widget/
See it here: http://kwitterz.com/share-your-thoughts-with-all-kwitterz/
Again, you’ll need to login… user = pjohn / pass = gollysargeHope this helps to get you started!
In reply to: Template File For Single Activity?Just checked too. Like @mercime said, adding the !important param to css style rules sometimes helps when you just can’t tighten up the specificity any more.
If you ever run into a jam where the !important thing just doesn’t cut it, try “weighting” the specificity of the element you’re trying to style. Here’s a simple set of guidelines to help get you started: http://htmldog.com/guides/cssadvanced/specificity/
Just throwing in my 2ยข
In reply to: Template File For Single Activity?@mercime Thanks for the link…
@justbishop There’s your backup.
EDIT: just saw your edit… hi!
Quick Post Widget allows guest posting with captcha:
https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/quick-post-widget/BuddyPress Activity Plus allows embedding or uploading media directly to the activity stream:

https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/buddypress-activity-plus/Hope this helps!
In reply to: Template File For Single Activity?Sorry, forgot about the sidebar issue

The easiest way to duplicate the layout of your site pages in permalink.php is to copy page.php and replace the contents in that file with the contents from permalink.php, keeping the container structure and sidebar calls from page.php intact, then rename that new file permalink.php to overwrite the old one. Keep a backup of your original permalink.php in case stuff gets screwed up
In reply to: Template File For Single Activity?The “View” links lead to this:
members/activity/permalink.phpIn reply to: Member Directory CSS for 3 ColumnsYou’re welcome!
Genius… no. Experimenter… yes.
In reply to: Member Directory CSS for 3 ColumnsYou can create a grid effect for lists by applying a display property to each list item and adjusting width and margins to suit the available space. For a 3-column members directory, try this:
ul#members-list li {
display:inline-block;
width:30%;
margin:6px;
}After that, it’s a matter of playing with the CSS for the various elements contained within each list item to get it to look just right. Have fun!
In reply to: Would anyone use Video Chat and Buddypress?Have you seen this new plugin? Looks perfect

https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/opentok-video-chat/In reply to: CSS issue with ActivityBoth will work.
One will shrink the comment box to accommodate the actual width of the avatar, the other will shrink the avatar to accommodate the actual margin of the comment box.
Use whichever you prefer.
In reply to: CSS issue with ActivityThe problem doesn’t look like it’s the image; rather, there doesn’t seem to be a large enough margin to the left of the comment div. Look for the following in your theme’s style.css file:
`div.activity-comments form div.ac-reply-content`
Add this and adjust to taste:
`margin-left:50px;`You’re welcome, glad things worked out
In reply to: Activity Page is messy and disjointed.You’re welcome… and have fun
In reply to: Activity Page is messy and disjointed.Sometimes, themes seem to be missing a few essential style elements for Buddypress, but you can fix that. Open your Fishbook theme’s style.css file and scroll to line 966 where you’ll see the style rules for `ul.activity-list li`
Add the following to make sure everything in each activity item sits snugly inside the container:
`display:inline-block;`The styling for images added to the activity stream by BP-Album plugin also needs a slight adjustment for your theme. You can add a bit of extra space beneath activity item images so they don’t crowd the divider line. Open bp-alnum/includes/css/general and scroll to line 197. Add the following to `.picture-activity-thumb img`:
`margin-bottom:10px;`
