Clear out your avatars folder.
eg. example.com/wp-content/uploads/avatars/ (assuming you’re using regular WP, not in network mode) – wipe out everything in this folder. You might want to back this folder up if you decide you want to bring them back.

r-a-y posted on the forum topic Can admin replace a member's avatar? in the group How-To and Troubleshooting: 15 years, 4 months ago
You can manually add a member avatar to your avatar directory. eg. example.com/wp-content/uploads/avatars/USER_ID/hldkfhlaskjhdfljsdfdf- bpfull.jpg example.com/wp-content/uploads/avatars/USER_ID/hldkfhlaskjhdfljsdfdf- bpthumb.jpg The suffixes are important as BP will pick up any image with the “-bpfull.jpg” suffix or the “-bpthumb.jpg” suffix. r-a-y posted on the forum topic Which function should I call to send private message? in the group How-To and Troubleshooting: 15 years, 4 months ago
Did you pass parameters into the messages_new_message() function? All the parameters can be found in the /plugins/buddypress/bp-messages.php file like Boone stated. — Private messages are disabled on this website at the moment due to spam. However, on a regular install, simply navigate to the “My Account” menu in the BuddyPress admin bar…[Read more]

I would always try to contact the author of the original plugin before deciding to release a new version.
In a recent blog post, the author stated that his older plugins work for WP 3.0:

There is a reference to the_time(), so I’m not sure what you’re talking about.

r-a-y posted on the forum topic Hide profile field in the group Creating & Extending: 15 years, 5 months ago
Tested just now, works for me. You need to use the profile id #. Go to your profile field setup and check the ID by putting your mouse over the “Edit” field. The ID # is field_id. For example, “Name” is 1. Either that or go to your DB and manually look up the profile […]

If you’re talking about activity updates, you’ll need to apply a filter to “bp_activity_time_since” (located in bp-activity/bp-activity-templatetags.php).
Something like this in your theme’s functions.php:
function my_bp_activity_time_since($relative_time, $activity) {
// use date parameters – http://php.net/manual/en/function.date.php
