In reply to: Do I need WPMU or will WP integrate with bbpress?
That’s what I meant. You’ll need to theme bbPress to match BuddyPress.
Before hiring someone for this, I’d recommend finalizing the look of your BP install.
Just my two cents.
Doesn’t that work against the traditional standards of registering?
Are you looking for guest posting on forums?
BuddyPress works with standard WP, so yes you can use it with your site!
You’ll probably need to use the BuddyPress Template pack plugin if you want to use your existing theme with it.
Like DJPaul said, you should test BP locally to see if it fits your site’s needs.
There’s also another option for social networking on WP called Mingle. Some consider it easier to setup with an existing WP theme.
Hope that helps!
In reply to: Alternative Usage of a Profile FieldYou can use an xprofile field, I see no harm in it.
Of course, there are other ways.
I believe, by default, all xprofile fields under “Base” are required.
If you don’t want it required, create a new xprofile group to house this new field.
To check the xprofile value of this new field, you’ll have to do a little manipulation in PHP with it. You could use substr() to check for file extensions.
In reply to: Do I need WPMU or will WP integrate with bbpress?Here’s the right place (for now anyway!):

Do you just want someone to duplicate the original BP theme as a bbPress theme?
In reply to: Need help locating the activity-header codeApply a filter to bp_get_activity_action (I believe that’s the filter that contains the view/delete links)
This is some test code you can use:
function my_remove_activity_action($content) {
//MANIPULATE $content here
//$content will probably contain the view and remove links
//you'll have to code this yourself
return $content;
}
add_filter('bp_get_activity_action','my_remove_activity_action');You’ll have to figure out a way to strip
In reply to: Do I need WPMU or will WP integrate with bbpress?You’ll need to style your bbPress theme if that’s what you mean.
In reply to: Consistency between WP comments and BP commentsThat’s probably not going to happen… there are too many variables to look for.
For one, different blog themes have different ids and classes.
In reply to: Consistency between WP comments and BP commentsIf you’re talking about the AJAX comments thing on BP component pages, you can easily find a plugin for WP, look for “AJAX comments” or something along those lines in the WP plugin repository and you’ll find a bunch of matches.
I haven’t tested any of these plugins out though.
In reply to: Username or Email Login ?With that email login plugin, you can login with either your username or your email address.
Works wonders!
In reply to: FAQ: How To, Code Snippets and SolutionsNo, not at the moment. This is something I’ve brought up before, but it’s a little bit more complicated than that.
Feel free to create a plugin for it though
In reply to: Migrating users from WordPress to BuddyPressI appreciate your rationale and enthusiasm, Tim.
It’s because certain issues might not be relevant anymore.
And I doubt Alessandro is reading this thread.
In reply to: Migrating users from WordPress to BuddyPressWhy revive an 11-month thread?
In reply to: Testing new theme, Hybrid as a parentJust downloaded to see your functions.php file

Will give some feedback once I’ve tested it.
Try adding this to wp-config.php or /plugins/bp-custom.php:
define( 'BP_ENABLE_USERNAME_COMPATIBILITY_MODE', true );In reply to: extending functions.php in my child-themeRemember to green light the thread!
In reply to: Custom Registration ComponentsYou’re right as well, Travel Junkie, but there’s no hook for the “completed-confirmation” screen specifically.
However, there appears to be a hook called “bp_custom_signup_steps” in register.php, which you could hook into after the “completed-confirmation” screen.
In reply to: Custom Registration ComponentsYes, you can!
If you have a child theme, move /plugins/buddypress/bp-themes/bp-default/registration/register.php and /plugins/buddypress/bp-themes/bp-default/registration/activate.php to your child theme and modify to your liking.
If you don’t have a child theme, read this guide:

In reply to: Do I need WPMU or will WP integrate with bbpress?You should rename your bbpress folder to /forums if you want it to show up there.

In reply to: Do I need WPMU or will WP integrate with bbpress?Where did you install bbPress?
example.com/forums?
example.com/bbpress?
In reply to: extending functions.php in my child-themeTry STYLESHEETPATH.
I think I remember reading a better solution somewhere, but I can’t remember it off the top of my head.
In reply to: Do I need WPMU or will WP integrate with bbpress?It’s an external install.
Download bbpress @ bbpress.org/download.
Integrate with WP. Find a guide on the bbpress.org/forums to integrate.
In reply to: Favorites — expanding capabilitiesTrue, a lot of the threads on the forum have been about bbPress.
I agree that it could be made clearer.
In reply to: Do I need WPMU or will WP integrate with bbpress?Are you talking about the default forums in BuddyPress?
eg. testbp.org/forums
This is the preferred method and will not cause you any headaches

If you’re talking about integrating an external install of bbPress, this is doable as well.
Requires a bit of time to setup, but it can be done.
Re: step 2 … rename “bbpress” to “forums”.
