    Regarding init (I copied this off a WP documentation blog, but explains what I want to say!):

    init is an action that is fired after everything in WP has been loaded, but before wp() has been run.

    So you’re right! In this case, because we want to override the wp hook, we’re using init to ensure that our function overrides BP’s one.

    For the second question, you could put the second add_action in the function and test it out. Like I said, the above code I posted was untested!

    Reason I left it out of the function was to ensure that our new settings nav function does indeed run, but in theory, it should work inside the override_bp_core_settings_nav() function as well (I think!).

    Step 1 can be accomplished (I believe) with the following code:

    function override_bp_core_settings_nav{)
    remove_action('wp', 'bp_core_add_settings_nav',2);
    }
    add_action('init', 'override_bp_core_settings_nav');
    add_action('wp', 'YOUR_SETTINGS_NAV',2); // this is where you would add your new nav

    This is untested, but hopefully it gives you some pointers.

    Hey Anointed,

    Try this:

    global $current_user;

    echo $current_user->user_login;

    That will get you the current logged-in username and not the display name.

    You might want to wrap that around an is_user_logged_in() conditional.

    I laughed when I saw the tags for this post!

    “2.8.1 sucks” haha.

    I’m still on WPMU 2.7.1 for one of the sites I’m working on, due to some plugin incompatibilities with WPMU 2.8+.

    By the way, I hate the new WPMU 2.8 plugin interface!

    You could use BuddyPress’ x-profile fields to create a required, custom radio button for gender.

    The hard part will be hacking the activity feed to show the pronoun differential.

    You’d have to create your own function similar to Buddypress’ bp_your_or_their() function.

    Then apply that function as a filter on bp_activity_content_filter.

    There should be a sticky with the topic title – “This forum theme and the BuddyPress theme used on this site will not be made available!”.

    But I bet even if such a sticky was made, there still would be the occasional person that will ask anyway!

    If you’re using John’s patch, you need to add the parameter “override=true”.

    So your updated call should be:

    <?php if ( bp_has_activities( 'type=friends&max=10&override=true' ) ) : ?>

    Try that and give it a shot.

    Go to your bp-activity-templatetags.php file and change this line from:

    return apply_filters( 'bp_get_activity_feed_item_description', html_entity_decode( str_replace( '%s', '', $activities_template->activity->content ), ENT_COMPAT, 'UTF-8' ) );

    to:

    return apply_filters( 'bp_get_activity_feed_item_description', utf8_decode( str_replace( '%s', '', $activities_template->activity->content ) ) );

    Not sure if this will work, but worth a shot!

    _ck_ says that her plugins are not compatible with 1.0+, but most of them are.

    Most of them haven’t been tested with 1.0+, which is what she means so she can’t guarantee any faults on the 1.0 branch.

    I didn’t hack it.

    Ahh okay… forget my last post entirely then! haha.

    Not sure if this will work at all…

    $myxprofileFields = new BP_XProfile_ProfileData::get_value_byfieldname('Hair Color');

    echo $myxprofileFields();

    This is where my knowledge of PHP stops here!

    I’m not that great with classes and objects.

    Hey Chris,

    I’m assuming you’re using one of the prebuilt fields called “State”.

    I didn’t look too closely at the classes or template tags, but check out /buddypress/bp-xprofile/bp-xprofile-classes.php.

    There’s a function called “get_prebuilt_field_data()” that might help you out there.

    You’d have to pass the CSV file to that function, but that might help…

    Another way to output the “State” data would be to parse the actual CSV itself that is used for the data. The CSV can be found in buddypress/bp-xprofile/prebuilt-fields/states.csv.

    Hope that helps somewhat!

    Here’s what I think you’d have to do:

    —

    There is a lot of bp-friends code that you’d have to duplicate.

    /wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-friends/ (entire directory)

    /wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-friends.php

    You’d have to rename each function, class and file for your “enemies” functionality.

    Then, you’d have to hack the core as well (or write filters or functions that won’t hack the core):

    /wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-core/ (many files in this directory, not all)

    Like I said, it’s ambitious. It’s not impossible. But you’d have to test it out.

    (I’m not a programmer either… I do a little front-end and a little back-end. I’m not especially good at one particular thing! Hopefully a real programmer can respond and give their input!)

    It works for me… I’m using bbPress 1.0.1 as well.

    FYI, I’m using _ck_’s BBcode Lite and BBcode Buttons Toolbar plugins.

    @r-a-y

    Hmm… not sure how to remove the widget JS/CSS that use wp_enqueue_script and wp_enqueue_style.

    If anyone has any pointers for this without hacking the core, let me know.

    —

    Also, I’d just like to say to the BP devs that instead of separating each CSS/JS file into separate components, why not load all BP javascripts in one file?

    Same goes for the widget CSS files. (I understand the BP CSS is a little too much to jam into one file… with all the different structure.css files!)

    This would help reduce the number of server requests and also keep the HTML source a little bit leaner.

    Just a thought.

    Hey korhanekinci,

    Got your PM.

    I didn’t reply to this thread, because I’m not sure what the problem is ;)

    Otherwise, I would have written something; but anyway, here’s some possible things to check out:

    • Can you navigate to any bbPress topic? Is this only on the bbPress front-page?
    • Try going to your bbPress admin area and deactivating any or all of your bbPress plugins and see if that fixes the problem.
    • Make sure you uploaded all the bbPress distribution files. You could be missing the index.php.

    That’s all I can think of at the top of my head.

    Hope one of them fixes your problem.

    @r-a-y

    Keymaster

    Hey BA,

    This one’s a little ambitious… since there isn’t an “enemies” function or activity to keep track of enemies!

    I’m guessing you’d need to duplicate many of the core “friends” code to do what you want to do.

    Also a person would have to “add” an enemy, which kind of defeats the purpose of adding this functionality, don’t you think? ;) (I get what you want to use it for!)

    @r-a-y

    Keymaster

    I’ve been thinking of doing this.

    Will investigate and report back.

    [EDIT]

    Here’s one way of doing what you want to do.

    I’ve made it so that the main WP theme will not load the core BP CSS/JS files.

    But on BP pages, it will load them.

    Enter this only on your WP theme’s functions.php:

    function remove_bp_cssjs() {
    remove_action('wp', 'bp_core_add_js');
    }
    add_action('init', 'remove_bp_cssjs');

    Caveats with this approach is you’ll need to load the bp_core_add_js() function again manually if you use any BP widget on any WP post or page.

    A way to do this is to manually add the BP CSS styles to your main WP theme’s stylesheet, while using Justin Tadlock’s Javascript Logic plugin to load the BP javascripts on a conditional basis. I’ll let you figure that one out ;)

    —

    I’m also looking at trimming more of the BP fat by removing the widget CSS files that are left over as well.

    Stay tuned…

    It depends on how integrated you want your site to be.

    If existing members can’t login to the main techsentry.org site, then I’d just install BP on the blogs.techsentry.org subdomain WPMU setup.

    However, be aware that a BP setup under the “blogs” subdomain will have permalinks like:

    eg. http://blogs.techsentry.org/members/USERNAME

    —

    #2 would work. I’m currently migrating a standard WP site to WPMU for the sole purpose of using BP and user blogs. If you have to alter a few settings to get things right, but your permalinks would stay the same.

    #2 is the hardest to implement, but the benefits are single sign-on from one point of access.

    It all depends on your needs.

    —

    Not really related, but as a usability thing… you should preferably list your blogs when people land on the blogs.techsentry.org subdomain homepage.

    I experienced a similar problem as well.

    Did you edit a BuddyPress core file using a bpGroups function?

    You should let Burt Adsit know of your fix, so maybe he can provide a cleaner solution using his plugin instead of editing the core:

    https://buddypress.org/developers/burtadsit

    —

    Try adding this to line 161 of /wp-content/mu-plugins/oci_bp_group_forums.php

    add_action( 'groups_create_group_step2_save', 'oci_bb_group_updated', 10, 1 );

    See if that does the same thing.

    You need to remove the “- ‘.BPLANG.'” suffix from the .po/.mo files in your bp-custom.php

    Use this:

    <?php
    define( 'BPLANG', 'mysite' );
    if ( file_exists( BP_PLUGIN_DIR . '/bp-languages/buddypress.mo' ) ) {
    load_textdomain( 'buddypress', BP_PLUGIN_DIR . '/bp-languages/buddypress.mo' );
    }
    ?>

    Ah sorry about the lingo, Erich73!

    I meant on my local, test install of WPMU and BP.

    I can’t say for sure that upgrading will fix your problem, because if DJPaul is having the same problem, then it must be a legitimate problem!

    Although I’m not sure which version of BP DJPaul is running.

    —

    I’m just going to try and clarify a few things here.

    In the “private group invite” email I received, this is what I got:

    One of your friends Ray has invited you to the group: "Private Group".

    To view your group invites visit: http://localhost.localdomain/members/test/groups/invites

    To view the group visit: http://localhost.localdomain/groups/private-group

    To view Ray's profile visit: http://localhost.localdomain/members/admin

    I click on the first link and it takes me to a BP Group Invites page, which allows me to accept or reject the invite.

    —

    This is the process you guys are talking about right?

    Or are you talking about accept / reject links from within the email?
