In reply to: when release of BP 1.2.4
Not likely. I would guess sometime this week?
Just keep watching Trac for updates – https://trac.buddypress.org/timelineIn reply to: installing bbForums on existing buddypress siteThere’s a bug with the “New Topic” dropdown menu that will be fixed in the next release of BP.
You first need to enable the discussion forum for each group before you can post a topic.
Navigate to the group admin page for the group you want to add a forum to. Go to “Group Settings” and enable discussion forum. Save.
Now attempt to post a new topic.See if that works.
In reply to: installing bbForums on existing buddypress siteDo you have your own separate bbPress forums already setup?
If not, just go ahead with the one-click forums install! Here are some functions that will override the display name to username:
http://pastebin.com/kZQnQaJA (updated with forum display name overrides)Paste it in your theme’s functions.php file.
There might be a better way to override the display name for the parent activity update, but this was a quick hack. If anyone’s up for a better fix, please post it!
In reply to: Child Theme Question from Super NoobYes, use a text editor to fill in your style.css. Basically copy the example CSS from the child theme article and modify it to suit your needs. Appreciate the e-hug!
In reply to: Time News BuddyPress themeMy antivirus app picked up a virus on the blogcastor site.
Just an FYI.
In reply to: Custom BuddyPress Theme CodingHi Peyo, we currently close job request threads on the forum.
If someone is interested in the task, please PM Peyo.
In reply to: Child Theme Question from Super NoobHi Rebecca,
Create the style.css with the information found in the guide locally on your computer, then upload it to your /wp-content/themes/shuswapsocialnetwork/ directory.
Once you’ve done this, you should be able to select this new theme under “Appearance > Themes” in the WP admin area.
In reply to: Members only@hnla – try
bp_is_directory()on the if(bp_is_register_page() … ) line.In reply to: Following vs. Friendinggian-ava – You’re correct. Current friends do not get converted over to following / follower users. Might want to ping Andy about this.
tahah – It’ll be released in the next week or so when BP 1.2.4 drops.
In reply to: Members onlyThat code looks like the Registered Users Only 2 plugin.
I made a mod to that plugin awhile ago to better support BP… check it out for some pointers:
http://pastebin.com/x8MpfLW1In reply to: Chat FeatureHere’s an old thread with all the Facebook-like chat scripts:
https://buddypress.org/community/groups/how-to-and-troubleshooting/forum/topic/facebook-like-chat-plugin-for-buddypress/In reply to: fyi: WP-reCAPTCHA works fine with BuddyPressI’m glad you asked the author and are contributing to the plugin!
One thing WP-reCAPTCHA will probably need is to make the plugin BP-aware. More info here:
https://codex.buddypress.org/how-to-guides/make-your-plugin-buddypress-aware-v1-2/This BP-aware code could then also be used as a conditional check.
I’ll take a look at the code in the next couple of days. It is indeed a Friday evening

Btw, glad to hear you’ll be contributing to the codex in the future! BP is most definitely a fun script to pick up and learn!
In reply to: Regular wp theme to a buddypress theme?Looks like it’s working, though you’ll need some knowledge of CSS to get it the way you want BP to look.
In reply to: Regular wp theme to a buddypress theme? You only need to create a child theme if you’re making changes to the default BP theme.
If you’re using an existing WordPress theme, then only use the BuddyPress Template Pack plugin with your WordPress theme:
https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/bp-template-pack/In reply to: Link Directly to Blogs’ Author PostsGotcha… just briefly glanced the post

So you just want to list a bunch of blog links that the displayed user is a contributor to?Blog roles were removed in BP 1.2.3 due to performance reasons. However, you might want to look for a WPMU-specific function for this.
Try get_blogs_of_user():
https://codex.wordpress.org/WPMU_Functions/get_blogs_of_userIn reply to: fyi: WP-reCAPTCHA works fine with BuddyPressForgot to mention that you’re missing a do_action in your display_recaptcha_bp() function.
Based on the code you’re using, that code is:
do_action( 'bp_captcha_errors' );You should also remove the WPMU check since BP works on standard WP circa v1.2.
I’ve amended your code here:
http://pastebin.com/QCbxXvhh (untested)Also, Peter, did you ask the original author of the plugin for permission before attempting to fork it? It’s just a courtesy thing.
If I did what you did, I could have released a thousand plugins by now! Okay maybe not a thousand but you get my point!
In reply to: Link Directly to Blogs’ Author Posts@nahummadrid – Is this thread similar to what you’re looking for?
In reply to: fyi: WP-reCAPTCHA works fine with BuddyPressHey Peter, didn’t see your post until just now.
You’re right that documentation is sparse, but that’s up to users like you and me to add it to the BuddyPress codex.
BuddyPress uses a different method to validate that’s why you can’t just hook in the WPMU validation function that WP-reCAPTCHA uses.
Like I stated above, look for clues in /buddypress/bp-core-signup.php. Check out the global $bp variable, especially $bp->signup->errors. This is what you have to use in place of what the check_recaptcha_wpmu() function uses.
FYI, I’m not using WP-reCAPTCHA.
Might I suggest using a math challenge plugin? It’s more user-friendly than a captcha plugin.
https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wpmu-block-spam-by-math/[EDIT]
Here’s another captcha plugin that supports BP:
https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/super-capcha/In reply to: Splash Start@ElaineSkapetis – you actually don’t need the “do_action( ’sh_walled_garden’ )” line in header.php!
Glad you figured it out.
What do you want to do? Make the registration page entirely blank? If so, just delete everything in “register.php”.
If you want to keep the header and footer, keep the get_header() and get_footer() lines, and delete everything else.
@holgria – Read my post again. I just edited it.
Copy over /bp-themes/bp-default/registration/register.php to /wp-content/themes/THE_AVENUEK9_THEME_DIR/registration/register.php.
Then open up register.php and make your changes there.
@holgria – Are you using a WordPress theme or a BuddyPress theme?
If you want to use an existing WordPress theme, use the BuddyPress Template Pack plugin:
https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/bp-template-pack/Then do what techguy stated – modify “registration/register.php” in your WP theme’s folder.
