@intimez – no, the register.php file is still in the bbPress folder inside the bp-forums folder on all installations.
I think this is the key to stopping spam – so, yes, delete it from your installation if you are having problems.
suerte!

@hnla Have we deleted the bbPress register.php file on this site, and changed the the BuddyPress register slug? Does it account for any of the spam registrations on here?
There was another one this morning (actually, they been operating for a while) – posting v.large nonsense status updates riddled with spam links

@tedmann – have a search on your install for the bbPress folder and remove the register.php file. I guess it doesn’t have to be activated for the file still to be there and therefore usable by the spammers.
It worked like a treat for myself and @footybible

@jimhellas – yes, I find myself using “find in files” a lot in my editor 🙂
Finding time to write sections on the API in the documentation is step 2!

@mercime @mercime – are you forming a BuddyPress cluster in South Western Kansas? see @tawnibear or is your location being pinched.

Eastern! I need a compass
-
@rogercoathup Nope. Southeastern Kansas is the default location for members who just typed “USA” in location profile field. Seems like it’s the center of the 48 contiguous states. @tawnibear might indeed be from that location – or not 🙂

@hnla – right thread!
The issue is: it was a difficult and not very technically astute ‘customer’ who’d opened the later thread, and there we are closing his thread and pointing him to something confusing and apparently inconclusive – even you had to get Ray to re-open it briefly, and check the solution again. 🙂
I can’t see the guy asking the…[Read more]

I noted earlier in the thread the mention of adding topic content to meta description as well, which never got covered. it’s difficult as the OP sort of hopes for absolute solutions when often there are not or at least not that don’t involve coding skills and API knowledge.
Sadly the OP probably fled at least their last comment was simply “So no…[Read more]

Okay, just got to this (/cc @rogercoathup).
Concern raised and duly noted. There are so many threads talking about the same thing. And there are only so many people answering them.
Try and see it from the mod’s standpoint. I’m not getting defensive and I truly accept the constructive feedback. The rationale behind closing a thread is to…[Read more]

@r-a-y I didn’t have you in my ‘gunsights’ with regard to handling criticism… so, apologies if it appeared a little scattergun. I appreciate your to the point, technically aware replies.
I know there are some very difficult users & oft repeated questions – hopefully, some strong pointers to existing documentation and better search facilities…[Read more]

@djpaul – I saw one closed this week, that had been open just a day or so. I think you closed it. The guy was referred to another old thread, which didn’t reach a conclusion on how to solve the problem. I’ve also seen a user, albeit an irritating user, blocked from using the site for […]

Use the function: bp_friend_total_requests_count()
It’s in the file bp-friends-templatetags.php

@lupin3 – I don’t know any off the shelf function that prints the filename. Depending on your browser, tools like firebug on firefox and developer tools on Safari may help you. Location of the files really depends which part of your theme you mean: the main blog / news ones or the social network specific ones […]

@mercime – returning the favour: I’ve also advised twice on this problem (via personal message and a status update). I gave the same advice as you: try the default theme, and let us know what happens.
Additionally: I don’t know if there are any known problems using BP1.1.3 on WP3.0+

@tedmann – there was a register file kicking around in the bbPress forum files, and I think that was the back door into the BuddyPress system. I don’t know if that issue has been addressed in the latest BuddyPress / bbPress releases. We stopped spam registrations almost completely on Hello Eco Living by removing the register […]

I don’t think either has been done, but now that Boone fella with the aberrant ‘B’ has some site access we may be able to change these things.
@boonebgorges ?
The bbPress register.php file is indeed there, but it doesn’t appear to be web accessible. BP_REGISTER_SLUG is the default ‘register’ on buddypress.org.
@boonebgorges web accessible? does that mean what so ever, that form can in no way be used and returned, I’m perhaps thinking of curl scripts?
@rogercoathup @hnla Is there specific download version that need to worry about or just on bp org site?
@intimez – no, the register.php file is still in the bbPress folder inside the bp-forums folder on all installations.
