OK, apology in order – my temperature sizzled, and I jumped to the conclusion that they were being added in the core, and not as a filter in the default theme (which is a damn good place for them!).
Now, if only you could tear half the other activity presentation stuff out of the core – or leastways create some more granular template tags / functions – so that we’re not stuck PHP unlocking those monolithic activity strings. That would be really lovely.
Apologies again, bit of humble pie for me, and @nuprn1 .. thanks for pointing out the filter

In reply to: Theme function to change Buddypress slugDo any of the SEO plugins let you manipulate the slugs from the admin panel?
In reply to: Who Owns BuddyDev ?If you post this on the job board on here, you should be able to hire a developer who’ll rework the Cosmic Buddy theme for you
In reply to: How to post in my forum ?Rich is suggesting you try reverting to BuddyPress default theme (as you should for most problems) – so you can isolate the problem.
Do your forums work using the default theme?
If not, have you set them up correctly: https://codex.buddypress.org/buddypress-site-administration/using-an-existing-bbpress-installation/
In reply to: bp org search page not foundYes, I think that’s been broken for a while – It’s a sad indictment of how many people actually use the search on here, that it’s not been noticed by others!
In reply to: Using the permalink for an activity “View” linkYes, the display of the activity entries is one of the most annoying / difficult things about theming BuddyPress – too much UI information is embedded and fixed in the core.
The best approach I can see for your issue is to hook a function onto the bp_activity_permalink filter.
Your function would have to check if the activity was your new component type, and if so, strip out the permalink info from the string (PHP string hacking), and insert a revised permalink based on your requirement.
In reply to: buddy press pls kill meWordPress sends emails automatically to the admin (you I presume!).
If you are not getting those mails when you create users in wp-admin, then your mail isn’t configured properly in WordPress (as with ‘freeriders’ system in the thread I gave you).
You need to fix that before proceeding with BuddyPress install.
Look in the WordPress Codex for details on setting up / configuring the mail settings.
In reply to: members can not register@hnla DUPLICATE:
You’ve posted this same problem twice in a few minutes:
In reply to: buddy press pls kill meCan your site send normal WP admin emails?
Try creating a user in wp-admin – did it send you an email?
My 10c worth – it also may be that your database is corrupted – perhaps a plugin that hasn’t tidied up correctly.
I suggested earlier that you revert to a previously backed up database (ideally from a known working version) and system.
If you are not able to do this – as @hnla suggests, you should look at hiring a developer who’ll be able to look directly at your database and files, and dedicate the time you need to find a fix.
Either this site needs better search, indexing and signposting, or members simply aren’t searching! I suspect both:
Yes, uploading local media would have seemed like the logical first step – before building support for external providers.
I suspect though, that it all comes down to the lack of support for media uploads in core BuddyPress.
I’m curious why the standard WordPress core media uploads / gallery handling / thumb-nailing etc. haven’t been integrated with the BuddyPress member profiles. Is there something fundamental that stops those existing routines from being utilised and mapped to profiles instead of posts? I feel that in this area, 3rd party plugins are unnecessarily re-inventing the wheel.
Ray’s oembed plugin will let you achieve something similar – store your videos / photos on a supported 3rd party and use the urls in your update: https://buddypress.org/community/groups/oembed-for-buddypress/home/
In reply to: I cannot change the homepageDo you still have the problem if you switch to the bp-default theme?
Have you got any caching installed?
In reply to: Extended user profile?@boonebgorges released a plugin to control which fields are auto linked – have a search for that.
You can also turn them all off by removing the appropriate filter (do this in your functions.php or bp-custom.php). I can’t remember the filter off the top of my head – have a search on these forums – it’s been covered plenty of times.
In reply to: Changing WORDS in the TRANSLATION FILE.Unfortunately, a poorly written plugin and / or theme – that doesn’t use the slugs would not work.
However, you can’t legislate for that.
The instructions in the Codex page are the best and also most future proof way to code your solution – and will ensure that well written plugins / themes work.
We’ve already suggested how your setup could be ‘messed up’ – perhaps you (or your developer?) have modified some of the core files?
I’d also be concerned about trying the theme built for 1.2.5.2 of BuddyPress with version 1.2.3 of the core – they might work together, but the theme might also rely on some amends in core (I’m doubtful on this, but it’s possible)
Your other problems should really be posted as separate threads on the forum.
Quickly though: your error message comes from including two files that declare the same function – it could be a badly coded theme / modifications / setup you are using, it could also possibly be something corrupted in your database / install – given that you’ve been trying to upgrade then downgrade, I’d be concerned that this is the case . If you want further support on this one, post it as separate thread, and give a lot more information about your setup and where the problem is occurring.
My personal suggestion would be to revert your system to a backup taken before you attempted the recent changes.
If your theme is purchased from Incsub (wpmu.org), you should contact them for support directly on problems with the theme
In reply to: Changing WORDS in the TRANSLATION FILE.Did you search the documentation?

In reply to: is bp-dev.org dead?I don’t think that site’s been running since the early 1.0.x versions of BuddyPress.
In reply to: Remove Sitewide ActivityIn your child theme (assuming it follows a similar structure to bp-default):
Edit your /activity/index.php file to remove the tab
In reply to: Remove Sitewide Activityyour solution (using the admin panel setting) turns off all activity stream posting.
The original poster only wants to remove the Sitewide Activity tab, and I assume wants to keep activity streams within profiles, etc.
The best solution is just to remove this tab from the main nav bar, is to edit the header.php file appropriately
In reply to: Inconsistent translation@boonebgorges, @hnla , @djpaul – can anyone fix the broken html in this stream?
In reply to: Inconsistent translationHave you made your changes in the wp-config.php file?
As I said, post your header.php file
In reply to: How to include a php file?Have a look at this page:
https://codex.wordpress.org/Function_Reference/bloginfo
you want bloginfo(‘stylesheet_directory’) instead of TEMPLATEPATH
