In reply to: Show pending friend requests
Use the function: bp_friend_total_requests_count()
It’s in the file bp-friends-templatetags.php
In reply to: Which PHP-files are used to render a page?@lupin3 – I don’t know any off the shelf function that prints the filename. Depending on your browser, tools like firebug on firefox and developer tools on Safari may help you.
Location of the files really depends which part of your theme you mean: the main blog / news ones or the social network specific ones such as profile, groups, etc.
For the blog specific pages – this page gives you an overview of all the WP files: https://codex.wordpress.org/Theme_Development
I don’t know what documentation is still around on 1.1.3 theme files. However, most of the files were typically in fairly explanatory-named subfolders of your member theme (e.g. in folders such as friends, members, wire, activity, profile)
In reply to: BP Help@mercime – returning the favour: I’ve also advised twice on this problem (via personal message and a status update). I gave the same advice as you: try the default theme, and let us know what happens.
Additionally: I don’t know if there are any known problems using BP1.1.3 on WP3.0+
In reply to: ANy ideas on this error message?@markhahnel – it’s not appropriate to open duplicate threads. They all get seen in the support section
@mercime – thanks for the heads up
DUPLICATE THREAD – see: https://buddypress.org/community/groups/how-to-and-troubleshooting/forum/topic/global-forum-problem/
In reply to: ANy ideas on this error message?@markhahnel – it might be a good idea to give some more information – when / where are you seeing the error message?
In reply to: BuddyPress Spam@tedmann – there was a register file kicking around in the bbPress forum files, and I think that was the back door into the BuddyPress system. I don’t know if that issue has been addressed in the latest BuddyPress / bbPress releases.
We stopped spam registrations almost completely on Hello Eco Living by removing the register file in the bbPress installation, and changing the url of the BuddyPress registration page.
In reply to: Display different content when logged in.You need to use the function: is_user_logged_in()
To make it easier to provide help: please provide more information –
Which version of WP / BP?
Does the problem exist if you switch to the default BP theme?
Have you tried de-activating other plugins and testing whether one of them is interfering with the behaviour of BP?In reply to: Combine Activity stream with WordPress postsThe BuddyPress activity loop fetches blog post activity, so yes – you can get the latest blog posts from within the activity loop.
https://codex.buddypress.org/developer-docs/custom-buddypress-loops/the-activity-stream-loop/
In reply to: Problem with postingIn reply to: User’s blogs are going to a blank pageSo, your main site is wp multisite and you’ve tried to activate bp on a secondary blog?
Amend: See the reply from @r-a-y to this thread: https://buddypress.org/community/groups/creating-extending/forum/topic/buddypress-not-on-themainblog/
Why haven’t you activated bp on the main site as that is your multisite primary blog?
Deactivate bp on your secondary site, install on your main site and let us know if your links then work
In reply to: User’s blogs are going to a blank page@cameroncameron – you’ll need to post some more information:
Which version of WP / BP?
Which theme are you using?Do your blog urls display correctly with the BuddyPress plugin deactivated?
Have a look at the recent sitewide posts widget – the code in there should give you the pointers you need.
You could also look at the functions in bp-blogs-templatetags.php
Or, I suspect best is simply to filter the activity stream for blog posts, and use the ids embedded in there: https://codex.buddypress.org/developer-docs/custom-buddypress-loops/the-activity-stream-loop/
In reply to: Change ‘Members’ Link and Name@ellaj – de nada. That’s some nice theming you’ve got going on there. The site has a few dead links at the bottom, I assume that’s just in the beta.
In reply to: Allow Users to add fieldsp.s. it’s the grouping fields as @hnla points out, that is one of the tricky points.
In old language terms: we needs structs, and then arrays of structs
In reply to: Allow Users to add fields@hnla – what’s the ‘beef’ with Javascript for the field creation? I assume Boone is just meaning the UI to insert the form fields, etc.
In reply to: Redirect to profile tab when clicking on a memberIn reply to: Professional Organization site@pattiearnold – you’ve got a ‘hundred’ different questions in here – you will need to ask them all as separate threads
In general, to achieve this level of sophistication – You’ll need to create your own customised BuddyPress theme. You’ll need to have PHP, HTML and CSS skills to do this. You could do it yourself or hire a BuddyPress developer
In reply to: Change ‘Members’ Link and Name@ellaj – check out this page: https://codex.buddypress.org/how-to-guides/customizing-labels-messages-and-urls/
@boonebgorges, @mercime, @hnla – the Documentation tab needs to be much more prominent, to save us having to keep typing this URL (and the child theme one) in forum threads
In reply to: Allow Users to add fieldsIn reply to: More Core Committers?I concur with most of what @paulhastings0 has to say (I was thinking the same thing just a few days ago). If only for the safety and security of the project, it needs more than one active core committer.
Additionally, I’d like to see:
– Someone giving clear lead & making decisions on features / future development – is that @johnjamesjacoby or @apeatling or someone else?
– Somewhere clear on the site to make and comment on feature requestsI’m on here everyday, an experienced BuddyPress developer, but still have to ask these questions. That they are not obvious is somewhat concerning.
Some ‘off track’ thoughts on improving the site: 1. make the documentation / guides more obvious to find (so many support questions are asked when people haven’t read the guides – it’s not necessarily their fault). Let’s have the site lead visitors where we want them 2. tidy up all the dead / out of date information and plugins 3. don’t close threads that are still active, or at least give the originator the opportunity to confirm they’ve received a satisfactory response before closing
In reply to: Forum content in meta and topic title in title?http://wpmu.org/big-news-for-bbpress-users-a-bbpress-plugin-is-coming-to-wordpress/
p.s. if it just needs you to use the echo-ing version of the function: bp_the_topic_title() as suggested by @hnla, then please report back on this thread, so that we have the information.
I assumed you would have been trying to echo the result anyway. Please post all your relevant code in future
In reply to: Forum content in meta and topic title in title? You can also look at the functions in bp-forums/bbpress/bb-includes/functions.bb-topics.php
Unless anyone else knows a quicker way, you are going to have to get your hands dirty coding this one.
Personally, I’d leave it until the new forums plugin comes out in beta in mid September.
In reply to: Forum content in meta and topic title in title?ok, I suspect that bp_get_the_topic_title() and the forum template tags can only be used inside the loop. Can anyone confirm this?
Instead, have a look at the functions in bp-forums.php and see if they will help you.
Alternatively, download the plugins that @modemlooper advised, and have a look at their code to see which functions they used
In reply to: Forum content in meta and topic title in title? You need to ask your question clearly and provide more information.
Where did you try the function call?
Use pastebin.com and post your code.
