| WordPress Origin Story | Keeping this short, I came into movable type and had blogs running on that system for a while. Running ads and early affiliate stuff and depending on traffic, every post and ad change was taking far too many resources and too time to recompile the site to push new stuff. Database drive sites weren’t awesome back then – having a database was a big issue. Speed and reliability were at the forefront of those issues. BUT… over time I came to not care, and decide to bite the bullet and get a database-driven application to run my stuff. I found B2 Cafelog. It took quite a while to transfer over to it but despite some speed degradations… I was sold. That’s also the time I started to know who Matt was. We all know the story now how B2 died and WP was born. I saw the open source world as extremely intriguing and I ran with it alongside of WP. Long story short here I am. I met Matt in 2007ish and based on that conversation, started WordCamp Phoenix. Ran that for two big events and handed it off. It still lives today. And me.. I’m not full time on WP anymore but it’s still a big part of my geek life. Long live WP. |
