In reply to: Customizing Problem (Renaming Groups)
Hi ,
The best way to do so will be using the languages file.
you will find the BuddyPress languages file in budypress/bp-languagesUse poedit(or any other software) to translate it. Change the Group/Groups with the desired text and save the generated mo file as buddypress-yourLocal.mo e.g buddypress-en_US.mo for the US English.
Hi Henry,
It is already there in the friends tab(in the user menu) for the displayed user.If you want to display it somewhere else on the profile, you can use this function as
`
`
Hope that helps.
In reply to: Post showing in Activity StreamHi @elangley,
sorry I could not reply earlier(was a little bit busy with some personal stuff).Just checked today the case by writing posts on sub network and It showed up correctly on my local install. I am using Sub directory install though(It should not affect the sub domain install I believe). Can you confirm if you already have BP_ENABLE_MULTIBLOG defined in your bp-custom.php or wp-config.php ?
@djpaul, @mercime, Thank you for the mention. My apologies for not responding to this topic earlier. I had got the notification.
In reply to: [Resolved] Restricting Users to One Groupthank you Mercime for the mention

I am linking to the membership limit plugin directly here
@obber please try this one
https://github.com/sbrajesh/bp-limit-group-membership-per-userHope that helps.
In reply to: Rectangular profile avatarThank you @mercime for the mention.
@jainsmo just replied to your post there. It is possible to have rectangular avatar.
do you want to have rectangular avatar for profile but square for groups etc or you want to have square for thumb but rectangular for larger image ?In reply to: hide admin from members list@wedeem
Thank you but I had updated the plugin on 10th September with the exact same changeshttps://github.com/sbrajesh/limit-groups-per-user
I missed to put it on wp repo. will do that today.
Thank you.
In reply to: Profile links & member pagesHi there,
The url may not be exactly as you wanted(since the profile becomes default component, the profile slug is not shown in the url for the first time), but the tab opened on user profile should be profile tab. Can you please check if the default landing page is not user profile(Under the user navigation tabs).In reply to: User BlogsSeem like you are using standard wordpress. You will need to enable the multisite mode.
here is the codex page for thathttps://codex.wordpress.org/Create_A_Network
hope that helps.
In reply to: Display age on profile pageNo problem. glad it helped
In reply to: Username availability checker for your siteThank you @mikey3d for letting me know. Glad you got it solved
In reply to: Profile links & member pagesput this either in bp-custom.php or wp-config.php
`
define(‘BP_DEFAULT_COMPONENT’,’profile’);
`
That will do it.In reply to: Display age on profile page@kirkslater,
Since you asked it in another thread, here is what you needPut this function in your functions.php or bp-custom.php
/** * Get Age from BuddyPress date of Birth * <a href='https://buddypress.org/community/members/param/' rel='nofollow'>@param</a> string $dob_field_name :name of the DOB field in xprofile, like Dob or Date of Birth * <a href='https://buddypress.org/community/members/param/' rel='nofollow'>@param</a> int $user_id : the user for which you want to retrieve the age * <a href='https://buddypress.org/community/members/param/' rel='nofollow'>@param</a> string $format: the way you want to print the difference, look t for the acceptable agrs * @return string :the formatted age in year/month */ function bpdev_get_age_from_dob($dob_field_name,$user_id=false,$format="%y Years, %m Month(s), %d days"){ if(!$user_id) $user_id=bp_displayed_user_id (); $dob_time=xprofile_get_field_data($dob_field_name, $user_id);//get the datetime as myswl datetime $dob=new DateTime($dob_time);//create a DateTime Object from that $current_date_time=new DateTime();//current date time object //calculate difference $diff= $current_date_time->diff($dob);//returns DateInterval object //format and return return $diff->format($format); }and Now you can output the age anywhere using
echo "Age".bpdev_get_age_from_dob("DOB Field Name");//display for the displayed user //or echo "Your Age".bpdev_get_age_from_dob("DOB Field Name",bp_loggedin_user_id());//display for logged in userYou can pass the Dob field name, user_id and the format in which you want to show the difference.
here is the gist in case the code gets garbled: https://gist.github.com/1257476
Hope that helps.PS: It will need php 5.3.3 or above.
In reply to: Profile fields in members list on groups page@kirkslater,
you are most welcome. Checking that thread in a minute
In reply to: Username availability checker for your siteHi,
It may be a css or javascript issue. Do you see any error in the console?
Can you check and make sure you get something like this in the html tab of firebughttp://img402.imageshack.us/img402/4815/usernameavailabilityche.png
In reply to: Profile fields in members list on groups pageTry this
<?php $location = xprofile_get_field_data('Location', bp_get_group_member_id()); if(!empty($location)) : ?>just pass bp_get_group_member_id() as the second parameter to xprofile_get_field_data.
In reply to: Reply is not working in Activity pageYou seem to be using older version of BuddyPress/ Bp-theme.
Upgrade your BuddyPress(and also the theme if you are using a different theme than bp-default). This is happening because the jquery included in wp3.2 is jquery v 1.6.1(which changed the way some of the properties are accessed).
In reply to: Getting a fatal error. Pls help me.You will need to upgrade your BuddyPress to 1.2.9.
Upgrade the BP and It will be fixed.In reply to: Urgent: Usernames with dashes not working properlyHi Greg, which version of wp/bp you are using. Also, is it multisite install(I guess, It is). Have you used anything to enable spaces in username, because wpms/bp does not allow spaces in name by default?
In reply to: Urgent: Usernames with dashes not working properlyHi Greg,
Put this in bp-custom.php
`
define(‘BP_ENABLE_USERNAME_COMPATIBILITY_MODE’,true);
`
this should allow you to see their profile.In reply to: Hide Homepageput this in your bp-custom.php and change the redirect page url properly.
`
add_action(“template_redirect”,”my_redirect”);
function my_redirect(){if( !is_user_logged_in()&&is_front_page()){
wp_safe_redirect(get_bloginfo(‘wpurl’).”/about”);
exit(0);
}
}
`That should work.
In reply to: What’s the best way to edit/override core functions?Hi Matt,
The best way would be to look for a filter in those functions and then change the output by adding your own functions on those filters.There is no way to tell wordpress to unregister a function unless it is used by an action/filter.
So, will suggest to look into those functions and find appropriate filter to hook your function and change the output.Hope that helps.
In reply to: Letting the user upload a custom background?@findly.tk
ooh wow, I never thought about that. I am updating it today again and that will allow users to choose this. nice point
@blueinkalchemist
There seems something strange with the urls though.
It works
http://designatedsketcher.maidenhosting.com/category/contestas well as this one
https://thedesignatedsketcher.com/category/contestHow do you manage to do that. That might have something to do with the conflict. hopefully, It will help further to understand the issue.
Hi,
It most probably seems like javascript conflict/error.
Do you use firefox. If yes, check the console(Even better if you use firebug addon) and please let us know if you see any error there ?
