I started using WordPress full-time in 2012. I knew some of the basics of html, css, javascript and had built a few static html sites. When I saw how much WP could do I was hooked. I later tried Drupal and Joomla; call me biased for having started with WP, but I feel it’s more user friendly than the rest.
