You do want to use no-conflict, but sometimes for testing purposes it is easier just to import jQuery manually and figure out the no-conflict stuff later before going live.
One thing that makes running no-conflict mode easier is setting up a variable at the top of your .js file like so:

I do want to start a discussion about how to make this feature more intuitive from a usability perspective. One of my clients and me were perplexed by this until we started reading up on it in the BuddyPress forums and trac.
Okay. The issue is that I am redirecting to the forum page for each group. The forum page for private forums does not have a “you need to be a member” error message like groups do. Doesn’t it make sense that forums would have a similar error message? Should I submit this as a BuddyPress bug? I have never submitted a bug and don’t quite know what the standards are for doing so.
