on the member profile page the different groups are tabs

they come from the admin area you refer to in you your questions, they are displayed on member profile pages in tabbed layout with “Base” (unless you have modified that name) also being the default group displayed.

profile fields are attached to member profiles has nothing to do with groups.

i dunno how to order the list but if you want only one criteria thats actually pretty easy the link takes this form:

yourdomain.top/members/?s=female

it sounds like you would need to undo any theme modifications you made to make your theme compatible with BP.

i don’t think that’s possible if you deactivated the plugin. BP does not alter any theme files as far as i’m aware at least.
