There appears to be some confusion (at least in my mind) on the steps needed to enable forums in the beta.

    1. Do I place the bbpress files in bp-forums or not?

    2. The forums “one-click” setup mentions placing the generated code in the “root WordPress directory.” Is that domain.com, bp-forums, or where?

    Thanks.

Ok. New database. Fresh install of WPMU 2.4.8a. Fresh install of BP Beta 1. Copied bp-default into wp-content/themes. Activated. The theme still reports the following:

The template files are located in /themes/bp-sn-parent/blogs. The stylesheet files are located in /themes/bp-default. BuddyPress Default uses templates from BuddyPress Social Network Parent Theme. Changes made to the templates will affect both themes.

    1. No plugins beside BP 1.1 Beta.

    2. There are a number of database-related errors. I won’t list them all, but they tend to follow this:

Table ‘xxx.wp_2_options’ doesn’t exist for query INSERT INTO wp_2_options

None of the errors mention themes.

When I recreated the buddypress test site, I kept the same databases, only dropping the fields and their content.

    3. I’m currently running the Beta released Monday.

    4. This is all after a clean install of WPMU and BuddyPress. The only thing that stayed the same was the database.

I guess my next step would be to create a fresh database and then reinstall WPMU and BP from scratch.

Ticket #1011 resolved on its own.

Thanks. Tickets #1011 and #1012 created.

I added the themes per the included instructions, moving bp-default and b-sn-parent to the main WPMU themes directory. I installed the beta versions Monday and the default theme still points to “/themes/bp-sn-parent/blogs” as the template files area.

What could have gone awry to cause the misdirection? (The child theme still picks up the template files and other parent characteristics despite the incorrect theme information.)

I tried the test.domain.com/subdir, now I’ll just go with domain.com.

I think I’ll do a clean reinstall of WPMU and BP, this time not using a subdir for my wpmu site. Thanks for the help.

So, what I need to do for the optimum chances of the BP trunk working is the following:

    1. Take wp-config.php and .htaccess out of the root directory

    2. Delete everything in the root directory.

    3. Put WPMU back in the root directory.

    4. Reactivate BP and the BP themes.

    1. BP1.0.3 was previously running on WPMU 2.8.4a.

    2. Using default theme.

    3. No other plugins.

    4. No bp-custom.php in use.

    5. No noticeable errors in error logs.

The default theme is active. I only have bp-sn-parent.

Solved. I found the culprit: inc/css/screen.css had the wrong permissions.

Update: The preview of bp-sn-parent loads, but not the preview of bp default. Somehow, the connection is broken.

Interesting. I just loaded the “facebuddy” home theme – and it appears. Other WP/WPMU themes load as well — just not the new bp themes.

I followed the readme instructions, deleting the bp-themes folder. I also deactivate and reactivated the bp plugin. I’ve deleted and reuploaded the themes, as well.

By “naked” I mean the stylesheet doesn’t load, yes. Other non-BP themes load fine. The preview icon loads, and the permissions are the same as other themes (755 on dirs and 644 on files).

I noticed in the BuddyPress Settings page, there is still a line about “No themes installed” for BP generated pages. I’m presuming this is just a legacy from 1.03, but should I put the new bp themes back in a bp-themes folder? I’m at a loss why the bp themes aren’t working while every other one is fine.

Styling for the default theme is not active. Although there should be styling, just naked text appears.

Hm. I added the function to the WPMU theme’s functions.php file, then used this link to point to the bp register page. Instead of the correct page, it returns a 404. This forces me to either use the bphome theme or call the register page from a WP (not WPMU) site.

The parent/child ability sounds promising, but I’m not sure how stable the svn version is — and don’t want to wait until next month for the official 1.1 release.

Thanks. Would function bp_show_register_page() allow my wpmu site to display the bp registration page? Until 1.1 is released, I’m using 1.03’s hometheme/member theme construct.

Odd. My BP site is a subdirectory of my main URL. So I have my main site (WP) and a subdirectory (WPMU) and BP. If I put the registration link in the WPMU blog (that serves as BP’s main page) the link is broken, redirecting to the WPMU login screen.

However, if I place the BP registration link in a WP site, the link to the BP registration page works without a problem.

How would I then create a new menu tab for the new page?

    @wordpressfan

That only sends me to the WP login/register page. Here is how the URL http://www.site/subdir/register translates:

    wp-login.php?redirect_to=http://site.com/subdir/subdir/register

I want to send users to the BP registration page.

My thinking is to emulate the profile style of either buddypress.org or wordpress.org sites. My site will only provide the ability to create a profile or search a profile. Actions such as e-mailing profile owners would be available within the main profile section.

Thanks for closing the other thread; I did not know the question had already been answered.

    I appreciate the tip.

Thanks for the information. I tried uninstalling the buddypress plugin (even physically deleting the file), but its remnants remain. I’d hate to delete my entire wpmu installation just to deactivate one plugin. I understand buddypress 1.1 is expected in late august with improved forum integration. I’ll wait until then.

I have the same problem. I’m using BP 1.0.3. Whenever I try to deactivate, I get the same “fatal error” message. Even when I physically delete the plugin, it remains active, but without a name. Reinstalling the plugin generates an error.
