2 Questions – Files & Redirection

Hi
I have the latest version of BP and I’m using the Default theme.
My questions are:
1. Where are the default theme files – I can’t see them in my cpanel, therefore I can’t make the files shown in wp admin writable.
2. How do I redirect a member after login to his profile page instead of the Welcome page?

1. /wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-themes/bp-default/

You shouldn’t need to touch those files, instead create a child theme: https://codex.buddypress.org/theme-development/building-a-buddypress-child-theme/

On the last link, I’ve selected a piece of code, but it says “put it in /plugins/bp-custom.php”
Does that mean create a new php page with the name bp-custom.php and place in just in the “plugins” folder, or should it be in a subdirectory somewhere of that folder?
Thanks and my apologies for my ignorance of this.
