A Few Problems

  • @erichamby

    Just wanted to list some things i am noticing.

    1: Search is pointless, every time i use a search bar it just comes up empty even when i search for the exact title or phrase.

    2: The a-z button directory is also pointless has it never seems to work. It just sets there loading but never does anything at all.

    3: My users keep getting page not found anytime they try to access there blog or do anything in the admin panel.

    4: And why is it that when i create a user the users blog is the same has the admins blog, does this go by I.P

    5: The information like the birthday, name and about me that a user fill out during sign up is pointless since it never saves and must be re entered once they log in from the edit profile page.

    6: under members and groups the active, newest, and popular links do not work, they just show the loading image but never do anything

    Are you using your own theme or the buddypress-home theme?

    @erichamby

    Participant

    im using the buddy theme, you may view the site here: http://terranbytes.com thanks

    #4 they have to be a user on the main blog in order to have a member profile, etc… their role is either “subscriber” or “no role for this blog” (can’t remember which) but it doesn’t mean they’re an administrator, just a member and signed in to post around and browse around, etc.

    #1-#2 Something is amiss. Should be working. Both the alphabet and search work on my installation. Try reinstalling the bp files, including themes. Save your changes beforehand! Do you have other plugins installed that could be interfering?

    #3 probably related to above

    Sorry I can’t help more…

    @erichamby

    Participant

    no i havent installed any other plugins, i wish it was that simple haha.

    @wardeh

    Maybe there has to be a minimum number of members for it to work.

    Why don’t you add a few more users and then test the alphabet and the search.

    @erichamby

    Participant

    yea i thought about that also, but to add member myself is a real pain at the momment since it keeps thinking there also admin. i just created the speedofpain user and if you look at the site activity it says i created the blog not speedofpain which isnt right. Its made to go from your I.P address i suppose i have no clue. but its hard to search though still when no user can make or edit blogs or anything else, cant acces the wp-admin in any way.

    @wardeh

    I don’t know why new users would be admin? That is not right, they should be subscribers or have no role. Even so, you can click on their name under Authors & Users and edit their role.

    You can add your name to the wp-admin area by going to Site Admin > Options and typing your username (the one for loggin in) in the field: site admins.

    As for the blog being created, did you do it in “Blogs” not “Users” of the Site Admin area?

    @erichamby

    Participant

    my users have no role. the blog they create when they open a account or after they open when they create a new blog it still shows page not found errors when viewing the blog or trying to edit it in any way. I dont want them to be admins at all i just dont understand why buddypress keeps attaching my name to every account i make. The information i also input when making a new member is useless as it is never saved. and must be redid in edit profile.

    @wardeh

    Participant

    It would attach your name to every account if you’re still logged in, right? Log out and then add your test users.

    Now the new users would be admins of their own blog.

    I’m at a loss Eric. I’m sorry.

    Actually, it sounds to me like WPMU isn’t set up right. If you’re not getting the subdomains to work, then you need to start there. Look at the other thread at that link I posted.

    @erichamby

    Participant

    yea i have sent in a support ticket to 1and1 to get the sub-domains straight, but really i got a few other problems other than that im at loss for. the adding members part really isnt bothering me because i really don’t need this feature anyways. everything else does bother me though. even something as simple as search and the 3 options above the members and groups on the home page aren’t working so i know that something somewhere is off, i just dont know what.

    @danielfelice

    i’d try reinstalling everything first…i am not seeing any of these issues on my site so must be something to do with your setup

    also check the permissions on the buddypress components

    @erichamby

    Participant

    yes permissions are fine, not sure whats going on with everything else, still trying to also get the page not found errors gone.

    Guys i love this script but i just cant get it to work, and since no one will sit with me for a bit and help out ill just stop using it thanks. maybe another time with a better release.

    You do not have mu setup and configured correctly. Until you do nobody will be paying any attention to your other problems. They are probably all related to the fact that mu is not working. Get mu working and then install bp. Please see the mu forums for help installing, configuring mu.

    https://mu.wordpress.org/forums/

    @erichamby

    Participant

    Ill go for yet another reinstall then, should i go with current release or go ahead and install the 2.7 version of MU?

    @erichamby

    Participant

    Hmm well i installed it with the trunk version 1581 and now i get error 500 everwhere. worked great untill i put buddypress on, hmm. any ideas for this?

    @erichamby

    Participant

    i got most the errors gone but for some reason the searches and letter search still isnt working. i really dont think this is wordpress MU but buddypress thats causing this.

    @burtadsit

    Participant

    You have to put basic profile info into your members for search to work. It doesn’t use the ‘login name’. Try plugging in some Full Names. Same for letter lookup.

    @erichamby

    Participant

    well no search works not even groups or anything. also the three options above the members and groups on the home page arent working, it seems anything that is using the lading image dont work, even the a-z on the blogs and members and groups pages.

    @burtadsit

    Participant

    Let’s take these things one at a time.

    “well no search works not even groups or anything” You are going to have to explain that in more detail please. That’s not enough to even know what the problem is or where it’s located. Try something like “Using the home theme, when I go to the search box labeled ‘find blogs’ and enter in part of a blog title it doesn’t show the blog I’m looking for.”

    Start with the problems you are having using search. Give me some details.

    @burtadsit

    Participant

    Me again. If you are using the latest SVN then there is a bug in blog search. I reported it in Trac. Wait a couple of revs for that particular thing to filter down.

    So what else can we work on? :)

    @erichamby

    Participant

    Well its not that hard, just go to the site and search for anything or whatever and youll see what i mean, no matter if it sees a match or not it should let you know, instead it just sites there and shows the loading image and never moves.

    Me or no other user can access the wp-admin home page. and like i said before anything that is using the loading image isnt working.

    like visit http://terranbytes.com/ and click on the Newest | Active | Popular links on either the members or the groups and it just sits there loading, anything that uses that images loading does this… kinda odd.

    thanks for your time and help

    i am using MU 2.6.5 or whatever the latest version is.

    @famous

    Looks like erichamby went with simple forums.

    I am having a similar problem, one that I have had from the beginning.

    groups search-works-check

    blogs search -works-check

    member search-works-No members matched the current filter.

    I have had this problem for 1 month, but kept silent hoping a new trac would fix it. Not to be. Does anyone know what might be causing this issue? And do you know what table in MySQL is called for this data?

    Thanks…
