A member site doesn't show in member directory

    WP 3.5.1 BP 2.2.4 http://www.gumpolen.com

One of my member sites doesn’t show in the member directory. The site exists, but there’s no mention of it on the page. There is another site that shows, plus the home site. Is there a setting to turn off a site that has been enabled?

    Update

This member’s site shows on the “My Sites” tab (second tab), but it doesn’t show on the “All Sites” tab (first tab). How can I get this member’s site to show on the first tab along with everyone else’s?

    Thanks,

    Kevin

    Update

The site that won’t appear on the members directory is a site that I built using one of my e-mail addresses. I then created another user and made them an admin. They then changed the e-mail address and proceeded to start using it.

I have all settings on BP checked for full usability, as well as installing both types of forums.

I deleted the site that would not connect to the member directory, then asked that person to create it again, but this time do it themselves. Now, as a Super Admin, I will build the site, and I won’t have to hand it off to them when it’s ready. The new site now appears in the Members Directory.

This person is very patient and helps greatly with user experiences. She’s my Mother.

you didn’t actually include the buddypress version you have bbpress version listed anyway if you create the site in network admin (under 1.6.4 anyway) and do not set a site title in the creation screen it will never be added to the directory maybe thats whats going on?

@ubernaut Sorry about not having the right version. I accidentally listed bbPress version. I’m running 1.6.4 BP.

I honestly don’t know what happened when I created the site last night. I’ve spent about two hours this late afternoon trying to replicate the situation to learn from it. All I know is that I created the site through BP and I must have done it at the same time I created the user account.

I have it all straightened out now. I just created a new site and had the user do it themselves. I then designed the site as an admin.

One thing, though, when people create a new site, they aren’t assigned an admin role. I have to do that for them. Is there a setting for this, that will automatically assign them the admin of their own site?

    Thanks,

    Kevin

Does anyone have any idea why members on my site aren’t automatically the admins of their own sites once they create them? Could this be a theme issue? Is there a setting that needs to be enabled?

Good grief. I just went to activate the BP default theme so that I could rule out a theme issue, and I get the Cheatin uh? code.

I guess I’ll delete my site again and start all over.

I tried one more thing before starting over. I had one plugin that I never deactivated to see if it was the problem: Si Captcha. That little rascal! It works so well, but it was keeping my members from becoming the admins of their own newly-created sites. I guess it has to do with spammers. I will see if there are any settings.

Every time something happens that I can’t explain, I feel like I’ve won the lottery but I can’t find the ticket. I hate that feeling. I really do.

These spammers are nothing more than high school thugs standing in the entryway of school, knocking the books out of peoples hands when they walk through the doors. I don’t know why there always has to be someone talking the fun out of something truly amazing such as BuddyPress. It really disappoints me to see spam accounts.

If I find out anything about si captcha, I’ll post back here.

    Peace.

@ubernaut I can’t believe I forgot about this. The reason this user’s site did not show in the member directory is because under that sub site’s settings tab, in Reading, if you have a check mark forĀ “Discourage search engines from indexing this site,” that site won’t be included in the directory. I can’t believe I forgot this, as I just had trouble with this last week. I haven’t been sleeping much.

no worries captcha doesn’t really work well enough to prevent the deluge of spammers/sploggers in my experience i have been having a good experience with WangGuard for user regs and Akismet works like a charm for comments but you can just turn both registration and commenting off site wide if you don’t want additional plugins.
