A question about messages?

So Buddypress has a messaging system so that uses can communicate privately. This is a great feature but what if users want to have a quick conversation? Chat is the only option. There are a few third party plugins available but it would be better if this was built in feature. It is one of the most requested features see https://mercime.github.io/BuddyPress-2015-survey-results/feature-requests-table.html I know it requires hard work but a question to Budypress developers – do you have any plans of adding a built in chat system?
    Just curious

This is strictly my opinion, but I don’t think there are any immediate plans to include a built-in chat system.

🙂 I don’t think it’s one of the most requested feature: Core – Chat: 2.11% (bp survey graph – 2015).

And only 34.02% of BP users activate Friend Connections.

You’ve better to ask directly the devs on Slack or to open an enhancement ticket on Trac.

There’s already a closed ticket about this:

@danbp Well according to the survey – not the most requested feature but still it is a requested feature and the actual number of buddypress users is much more than those who participated in the survey, i guess. Also, will there be a 2016 survey?

There are some very good easy to implement chat plugin out there as well. I use the pro version of this one. Had it set up in minutes after install and it has a widget that seems like it would fit the bill for the quick conversation you mention.

Not affiliated with them in anyway BTW
