This is true. I think there is about 10-15 hours work in it before it gets to a beta release for the current version of BuddyPress.

I am working on it, but as always there are plenty of things to do

Hot diggety dog! That’s great news. I had fun with your earlier version of Achievements back in December and I’m looking forward to seeing how it will integrate in 1.2

There’s also CubePoints, it’s a WP plugin that gives users points based on certain actions.

If you know a little code, you can easily extend the plugin to offer user points for BP. You can potentially do some neat things with the logged-in user and some CubePoints conditionals in the BP theme.

Really looking forward to the new Achievements. I’m launching a new Buddypress site for an existing forum I run that is based around gaming, and they’ll love having achievements within the community too! (Especially the obsessive types that spend way too much time getting every single TF2 and L4D2 achievement on Steam…)
