Activity bar accessibility for visually impared

Hi,

I am attempting to fix an issue with Buddypress’ activity menu bar being invisible to those needing text readers to navigate. I have several users who cannot find the “friend requests” section to accept any requests. It seems the entire bar that includes items like activity, profile, messages, notifications, friends, etc – and all subsiquent sub menus are not visible to text readers.

Is there a plugin or fix for this? I have spent days looking. Solutions like WP Accessibility do not solve this.

Any help would be wonderful. Our site is not for profit and is the only source of help for those suffering from a particular disorder, so a prompt fix would be wonderful. Thank you for your time and assistance.

Hi @hipp

Sounds like some accessibility enhancements might be needed to the menu’s markup. I suggest you open a Trac ticket giving the core developers as much info about the problem as you can.

You can use your same login details on Trac.

As henrywright says please open a ticket and give as much detail on your theme and the issues your users are having, also please run a test beforehand in a stock WP theme and perhaps one with JS disabled.

A quick check with ‘Fangs’ didn’t show any obvious issues, the links are there, but that isn’t a particularly detailed test.

If we can gather as much information and rule out any issues that might be induced by themes or plugins, we will have a look at this aspect as it’s been vaguely on the radar, however quick fixes probably won’t be forthcoming but we may be able to suggest some custom fixes in the interim.
