Activity Stream Customizations

I have duplicated renamed and customized my activity stream in order to create a secondary stream that displays in the side bar. I want it to only display the stream of the current logged in user and display a maximum of 10 updates at any given time.
The idea is that a logged in user can post to that stream specifically – and the output is specific to the logged in user – without the distraction of other users activities being shown.
Is there a way that I specify that the information gathered and displayed is only from the user who is logged in?
any help or pointing in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.
