Activity stream not showing content as expected

Clean BP install — no plugins other than BP 2.2.1
    WordPress 4.1.1
    Twenty Fifteen Theme

I have a few posts created, and have created comments on those posts.

When I go to /activity to see the activity stream, I am experiencing a few issues with content not appearing as expected.

    1) The dropdown menu on the activity page does not change the display when I select an option — I can select Everything, Posts, or Comments and the display does not refresh accordingly. (When I look at the /members page and make selections from that dropdown, the page refreshes reordered by last active/alphabetical/newest registered, so I’m expecting a similar page refresh on dropdown selection from the Activity dropdown.)

    2) Lots of times I will go to /activity and get the message “Sorry, there was no activity found. Please try a different filter” — this is from the top level of the activity feed, and I absolutely know there IS activity to show. Even after I clear the browser cache, I get this message. This problem seems to happen sporadically, I can’t seem to find a hard and fast way to reproduce it — but it occurs often enough to be a showstopper for me.

I looked through the forum and didn’t see any solutions. I did make sure that “discourage search engines from indexing the site” was unchecked, as I saw some posts that were possibly related to that.

Are there other settings I need to adjust? Please advise.
