    Hi there,

I am having this exact same problem, but nothing listed above seems to fix it.

After a fresh install of BuddyPress, with groups activated, and “Enable group creation for all users” checked in the settings page; I receive a 404 Error when clicking the “create group” button on either the groups page, or in the admin panel of WordPress. Is there something i’m missing? is the group creation page built into BuddyPress or do I need to create it? Nothing about creating this page is mentioned in the codex linked above.

I also tried deactivating all plugins except BuddyPress as well as changing my theme to the “twentyThirteen” theme but still no dice. I could really use some help with this.

    Stats:
    WordPress Version: 4.3
    BuddyPress Version: 2.3.2.1
    DynamiX Theme Version: 4.3.1

Check your permalinks structure – and resave them.

What url do you see when you roll-over the create group button?
You should see it in the bottom bar of your browser.

I see my root site then “/members/groups/create/”

    That’s what you should see…

    Have you turned on wp_debug? [ It’s a setting that goes in wp_config.php ]
    Anything in your error logs?

    Found the problem.

BuddyPress didn’t like that I had the groups page as a sub page of Members. Moved Groups page to the root and now everything works great.

    Thanks for your assistance

    You’re welcome !

To all readers, Codex reminder when getting 404, missing BP pages, not found errors after setup or upgrade ! 😉

    Settings → BuddyPress → Pages

Pages are automatically generated for the BuddyPress components you enabled in the components settings using the default slugs based on the name of each component activated. Make sure that activated components have corresponding pages assigned to each in this panel.

    Directories
Associate a WordPress Page with each BuddyPress component directory.

    • Activity Streams (if activated)
    • User Groups (if activated)
    • Members > this is core and can’t be removed/modified

    Registration

Associate WordPress Pages with the following BuddyPress Registration pages.

    • Register
    • Activate

Note: registration is not a BuddyPress component but part of WP core.
When you allow user registration, you have to add manually these pages.
