Add Member to Group Code Failing

Tried to follow the command in this link:
https://codex.buddypress.org/developer/user-submitted-guides/how-to-add-members-to-a-group-via-wp-users-screenWhile I can see the drop-down option the admin page, and it prompts for the group ID when clicking apply, the user isn’t added to the group. Basically, nothing happens.
