Adding meta tags to the header

I want to add a fairly lengthy tag to the header of every page (it’s for content filtering), and don’t know where it needs to go…help appreciated. Is there a plugin I can use for this, or do I have to edit a file?

You could create a child theme, copy the header.php file from parent theme and add the meta directly, save to child theme folder.
