Adding unique user content to menu tab

Hi I am trying to make it so that I can have a custom page on each users profile that would have a menu button as if part of thier profile. I have tried the plugin custom user menu (I think thats what it is called) but it is only for a sitewide page.
I came across this old help post but the link is dead and i am wondering if Modemlooper can tell me if it is an easier fix now or show me how this was done? https://buddypress.org/support/topic/easy-way-to-add-tab-to-profile/
