Additional Widget Areas

It seems that by default, there is only one widget area for BuddyPress single member profiles.

I’m wanting to use different widgets for different tabs of BuddyPress. For example:

    – Friends Tab have abc widgets
    – Messages Tab have xyz widgets

How do you create/use more widget areas for BuddyPress?

What I do is use a plugin that only displays the widget on specific pages – it’s called Display Widgets SEO Plus, unfortunately that’s been removed from the repository. An alternative is to use Content Aware Sidebars Pro (premium version) to create sidebars specific to those pages and insert your widgets there.

The problem that I have with that method is.. I can’t target specific pages due to usernames getting in the way.

example: website.com/members/jonny55/messages will only work for jonny55.

is there some kind of placeholder I can use for all members?

    like: website.com/members/*/messages?

Content Aware sidebars does this, but in my view it costs too much for that feature, it’s something that I’d like to see a solution for, along with more profile and group specific widgets to use in those places.

I looked at Content Aware Sidebars. It’s very appealing!

I’ll need to look more into the URL feature.

In any case, I noticed that it does BuddyPress integration pages for free o.o
    Just not URL.

Yes it does, I tested it a while back and the one issue I found was that the site started to get very complex when it came to sidebars, and the widgets page does not take to that compexity too well – it gets clunky when you are displaying lots of sidebars and widgets.

Sorry to bother you. I know you’re not affiliated with Content Aware Sidebars, but to be clear…

You said the pro version allows to target usernames (dynamic)?

    example:

    website.com/members/{username}/shop/checkout ?

or is it just static URL?

I ask because they don’t have a trial, don’t offer refund and only allow annual billing -.-, but if you have experience with using it and sure that it can do this, I would like to know.

You’ve been so helpful. I’m not sure if you’re paid staff, or if helping others is voluntary, but i’m very thankful to have you helping others.

    Thank you

No, I never tested that, what it did allow was for me to create a sidebar that would only display in the members profile page for example, or in the group home page. That’s as far as my testing got.

Looking at Display widgets the version I have allows you to display a widget on all profile pages, it does not allow you to select specific pages within the profile pages. I also notice there is a version available for download here:

    https://seo-gold.com/display-widgets-plus-plugin/

The author promised a premium version but it looks like he never got round to creating it.

One option that I’d think about would be to modify this plugin to provide you will the desired functionality. most of the hardwork has already been done in that it’s picking up the bp profile pages to the virtual url used is supported, it would just require some further logic to only display on a specific profile page.
