After Installing, Everything Disappears

    Hi everyone,

So, my issue is relatively simple, and I’m sure there is a simple solution. I am using https://www.000webhost.com/ to create a free site that uses wordpress and, by extension, buddypress. My goal is basically to practice with these tools before deciding if I want to make a real site, considering all my site building experience is through other platforms. 000webhost appears lovely at first: I was able to easily create an account, choose a domain name, and then it even had wordpress there as a pre-set option that would auto-install if you so chose. I did it, and it appeared to work flawlessly and took me straight to the wordpress dashboard. However, the second I installed the BuddyPress plug-in, everything went blank. There is still the menu on the left hand side of the screen, but none of the tabs load whatsoever.

Considering I have never used wordpress or buddypress before, this could be a totally simple error on my part, but I couldn’t find a solution just from googling it. And I can’t just play around with it until it works, like I normally do, because there is nothing there to play with. What did I do wrong, and how can I fix it?

I am guessing an installer from a web host likely includes some plugins and different themes.
I suggest deactivating or deleting all plugins, and switch to default theme in wordpress before you try to install buddypress. then follow the prompts from there.

    Hi @alexandryne

I had this same issue today on a new server. I solved it by downgrading php from 7.1 to 5.6.

You could do that too or request your hosting provider to do that for you (it’s a flick of a switch).

    regards
