All activation emails going directly to SPAM folders

  • I am running BP 1.5 on WordPress 3.2.1, single site install in the root directory, hosted by Mediatemple and using the Salutation theme by Parrallel.us.

I have the problem that all activation emails are arriving to user SPAM folders despite having installed the mailfrom plugin to force the default wordpress email address to be one of our existing email accounts.

I wonder if the issue could be related to the fact that these email accounts are hosted by Google Apps and not on our server where we host the website?

Does anyone have any advice as to best-practice to ensure that as many possible activation emails arrive to users inboxes?

  • Update! I now notice that this issue is directly related to the activation of Welcome Pack plugin, when deactivated activation emails go to the inbox… grr….

It’s neither the fault of WordPress, BuddyPress or Welcome Pack that your emails are filtered into spam folders. I suggest changing the content of those emails so that email spam services are less likely to flag the email as spam. There may also be server configuration changes you could make to help.
