[Resolved] Allowing blogs/subsites in BP/Multisite install?

    @rickkumar

    Hi,

    I have a WP/BP/Multisite install.

    The members were allowed to create their blogs on the subdomain of the mainsite (i.e. myblog1.mainsite.com, abc123.mainsite.com, etc) during the new member account registration process.

    The problem was that many members just checked the box for getting a new blog but they didn’t do anything with it. I am not sure if they even knew what it is but they just checked the box for getting their blog  just because it was there.

    So I have taken it away and now only allow the new member account registration withOUT them applying for the blog.

    Our site is still BP/Multisite and we can allow the blogs any time later if we want. I want to keep the ability to turn the blogs on so I plan to keep the entire BP/Multisite setup.

    Q1: Can I manually add blog sites for the members who request a blog site?

    Q2: Can I do it on a case by case basis from the WP-Admin for the existing memebrs whenever they want a blog?

    Thank you for your help.

    yes under network setting you would choose the option “User accounts may be registered.”

    i think you could hide the button on the reg page through css.

    Thank you!

    When I selected the option “User accounts may be registered”, the ‘select your new site checkbox’ immediately disappeared from the new member account creation page. No css changed were required.

    Q: Can I manually add blog sites for the members who request a blog site on a later time (let’s say two month after creating their account)? Basically wondering if I can do it on a case by case basis from the WP-Admin for the existing members whenever they want a blog site?
    Thank you for your help.

    Question about editing the site info under: wp-admin/network/site-info

    I see the following fields:

    ———————————————————————–

    Domain: http://Username.Mainsite.com

    Path: [/                                           ]

    [checkbox-already checked] Update siteurl and home as well.

    ——————————————————————————-

    Q: Do I need to write or enter anything in the “Path” field after the / as shown above when creating/editing a site?

    Thanks.

    @ubernaut

    that’s the edit site page it just puts all the options on one screen you don’t need to use that until you are comfortable with the regular screens imo
