    hi Nicola

if you look at this page, http://yaksocial.com/groups/blog-engage

and look at what search engine see here,

    http://www.seocentro.com/tools/search-engines/metatag-analyzer.html

    Overall the SEO is poor!

Look at the title tag is not even displaying the page name right!

    Should be,

Blog Engage – Groups – YAKSocial – Networking

but instead it is seeing this,

    Groups » Blog […] » Home

You must log in to access your account. Username Password Remember Me Public Group Blog Engage is a Web 2.0 Adsense Revenue Sharing Social Networking website …

All titles for the top level pages /groups /members /blogs and all blog posts are “Blog Title” out of the box.

Members pages are titled “Member >> Profile >> Public” w/out blog title.

And Groups are “Groups >> Example […]” w/out blog title.

Titles being highly visible and important in seo… this is about as bad as it could be. These pages are probably not where you will drive traffic, but they are prominently linked, and not anywhere near optimized out of the box.

Andy is aware and working on the Groups […] title feature –

I can’t find the post, but he mentioned this was in the pipeline.

I am aware of it. It’ll get fixed soon. SEO is not my primary concern right now, but that will also improve too.

Why fix something when it’s not broke!

You should keep the same practices as wordpress!

Is this a buddy press issues or wordpress mu issue?

    Even blog titles,

    http://yaksocial.com/blog/2009/03/24/yak-social/

The title is non existent! It’s simply displaying the website name omg!

You can change your blog titles in your themes\’ header.php files.

I believe there are others using all-in-one-seo plugin too.

    @bbrian017

will that be a site wide change or does every blogger have to make that change?

    They know about this

I logged it a week or 2 a go and there are tickets on the tracker about SEO

Hopefully will be done fairly soon

@Bbrian017 Each theme has its own header.php, so depending on the theme they select, the titles will vary.

The default theme has more than the website name, ie. http://mayo.testbp.org/2009/03/25/hello-world/

I think you’ll find that http://yaksocial.com/blog/2009/03/24/yak-social/ is like that because that’s the title of teh post there :)

Another though regarding SEO, when a user goes to their profile >blogs > recent posts, all of their posts are repeated verbatim, creating a second copy of each post in addition to the original post on the user’s blog.domain.com blog. It would be a good idea to noindex / follow these pages or better yet, include only titles to prevent duplicate content….

Also noticed that <?php bp_page_title() ?> doesn’t play well with All in One SEO Pack or Platinum SEO pack if titles are set to be re-written as all BP pages then have no titles……
