Avatar cropping errors

I recently upgraded to 1.5.6 and now the avatar upload isn’t working.
I can upload the pictures via the uploader and see them in wp-content/uploads/(user-id), but the cropper and previewer don’t work. I tried on Chrome and Internet Explorer.
It seems like the script the can’t find the pictures even though it uploaded them fine.
I tried turning off wp-cache with no results, and also tried deactivating plug-ins.

Below is the incomplete image link that is attached to the cropping section.

What is the ‘?9e1edd’? Does that effect the problem?

    My website is: http://www.bookkus.com

    Thanks in advance.

My avatar cropping seems to have broken too (since 1.5.6). Looking for a solution…

What ways have you tried to solve the problem?

Could this be a theme problem?

Have checked and multichecked wp.config, have checked htaccess, have totally replaced all wp-include and wp-admin files and root folder php files to original, have set folder permissions up to 777 on wp.content and set to recurse, have tried every theme, including default BP…. avatars go blocky after a while, and when you try to upload any avatar via BP Change Avatar, it uploads fine but then shows a block size of about 80 pixels by 80 pixels of the image uploaded’s top left hand corner only..

Any ideas on ending this nightmare… and no not gravatar. Also I found that when i upload via admin dashboard using say plugin like Local Avatar, it works fine… Yep, removed just about all plugins, including Quick Cache… totally lost on this

I’m also having issues with resizing avatars. Nobody has any ideas? The software gives me a page to resize the Avatar, but no way to actually crop it. Then only a small corner of it shows up.

    Frustrating.

Hi, did anyone find a solution?
I’m able to upload and crop avatars for our groups but not for profiles for some reason. We just get an error after cropping every time.

sounds like you folks aren’t seeing the crop tool handles that corner thing is how it starts out but you should be able to resize the square on the full thumbnail. i don’t really know more then that sorry.

It lets me upload and crop so i get this message…
Your new avatar was uploaded successfully!

but then nothing or if i hit refresh i get an error saying
There was a problem cropping your avatar, please try uploading it again

Are you seeing any javascript errors in Chrome inspector on the avatar upload and cropping pages?

I keep getting one of these two errors at the top. No errors are showing up in google inspector though. I hope this helps

Which version of PHP are you using on the server? It looks like others have experienced similar issues with php 5.4: https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/4191

After i deactivated almost all my plugins it went away. That was my solution.

got the same problem – deactivated all plugins and now it works.

Hmmm I wouldn’t call that a solution. Can you narrow it down to any particular plugins?

In my case it was ‘BJ Lazy Load‘ that needed disabling to make the difference. Do you have that plugin on your site, or is it a different one?

Either that plugin is the issue, or if it’s multiple ones then we could try and figure what they have in common and fix that.

I found the problem was that I had Photon enabled in Jetpack
