Avatar upload error

Avatar upload is now stored in wp-content/uploads/avatars/1/ (or other numbers) with clear image name,
however the avatars folder does not contain a clear image name, only cropped images,

theme BP default, wp/bp versions: latest official

    example: my-image.jpg uploaded
cropped images in folder: 12345-bp-full.jpg and 12345-bpthumb.jpg

avatar crop page does not show any avatar image,
site source shows path to wp-content/uploads/avatars/1/my-image.jpg
however the folder does not contain a file called my-image.jpg

What other plugins are you running? Any customisations in wp-config.php or bp-custom.php?

Test server, no customisations, no plugins.

Fresh copy of buddypress&default theme installed, still no avatar showing up nowhere,
    might be a subdomain problem?

@Milo317 I had a similar problem – uploaded avatars were being chopped/ no crop function.
Check your javascript load order – I found out that a main script wasn’t being pulled in – updated AJAX and correctly referenced and it all started working again.

Oops, just had an upload error here
Upload Failed! Error was: Unable to create directory /avatars/90307. Is its parent directory writable by the server?

I’m not able to upload an avatar right here on buddypress.org, exactly the same error.
