bbpress + buddypress (without group forums) or just buddypress with group forums

    Hi!

it has been few months now, and I still cannot decide if I am doing the right think, or what is the right thing

bbpress stand alone forums + buddypress (without group forums) or just buddypress with group forums

    with large forums…

can buddpress group forums handle 30,000+ posts etc?

or is it better to have the forums integrated like on this site

    separate from buddypress group forums

also bbpress have the advantage of proper ‘Forum Index’ something group forums at the moment lack..

but buddypress forums win on simplicity, theme integration,

    can anyone one suggest?

I have to make a decision and i keep changing my mind..

    kind regards

    Kris

    Hmm..

The BuddyPress Group forum system is actually powered by bbpress so it should be able to handle anything bbpress can. It is up to you whether you want to use the group forums system or work on integrating a standalone bbpress install into wordpress.

    You can have both.

    you can have:

    – buddypress + group forum

    – buddypress + bbpress

    – buddypress + group forum + bbpress

i’ve the last configuration on buddypress italy and works without problem.

    Salve Arturo.

I can see you have BP groups with its forums under BP-it.it/groups and bbp forums under subdomain forums.BP-it.it

Can you have group forums show in the same page as bbP forums ? Like below “tema principale” instead of “ultime discussioni” ? Or maybe shorten “ultime discusioni” and add group forums beneath ?

There is almost no reason to use an external bbPress; Groups (and their forums) are very powerful and can be skinned to match your requirements. The upcoming design of THIS website should open some people’s eyes.

no, i don’t have group forums show in the same page as bbpress (standalone), the subdomain with bbpress is a standalone bbpress installation deeply integrated with wp, and the group forum directory at /forums with no link in the header

    @Paul

can we see a screenshot or somethings? thanks

I tend to agree except that I want a way to have an ‘open’ forum as well as group forums :) You know? A way for people to put up support questions without having to join a group. Unless there’s a way to make a group that anyone can post in, member or not, it’s a bit of a sticking point.
