BP Capability

I am new to BuddyPress. Trying to get the Forums working right on this site: http://desertmindstormgrippers.org

I am the Coach for a First Lego League team and I’ve created this site for our team. I am using the official FLL theme for the site.

I am trying to follow the instructions on the BP Capability page but I am a little lost. Specifically I am trying to follow step two. “Alternatively, you may find it easier to make copies of your theme’s header.php, sidebar.php and footer.php and rename them to header-buddypress.php, sidebar-buddypress.php, and footer-buddypress.php.

Then you can alter the structure of these new template files (header-buddypress.php, sidebar-buddypress.php, and footer-buddypress.php) to resemble your theme’s page.php (or index.php).

Once you are done matching up the HTML structure of your theme in these template files, please take another look through your site. You should find that BuddyPress pages now fit inside the content structure of your theme.”

I have created the 3 pages in my files but I am lost as to what coding should be in those 3 files.

What should be in the header-buddypress.php?

What should be in the sidebar-buddypress.php?

What should be in the footer-buddypress.php?

I am comfortable copying and paste code as long as I know exactly what I am supposed to put in there.

Just to clarify, what is the official FLL theme? If you meant the BuddyPress Default them you do not need to add BuddyPress capability – it comes with it.

@peppermintmochapatty if you are using this theme, https://wordpress.org/extend/themes/first-lego-league-official , you cannot use the second method (creating xxx-buddypress.php) for Step 3 of the BP Compatibility process. Because of the HTML structure of your theme, you’d need to revise 16 template files from the 6 BP folders transferred to your theme’s folder in server.

If you still want to proceed with the instruction, let me know.

Thank you @mercime. I was going to try that step first but I did not see those files in either the WP Editor nor in my hosting files. At this point I am either just going to ditch this or perhaps pay someone to fix it for me real quick.
