BuddyPress.org

I’m using buddypress 1.6.1 for a client’s intranet. The site is in English but has members from around the world. Some of the members have names including characters such as ” š “. Any links with these members’ names are broken – the href attribute shows the correct character in firebug and the page source, but when clicked on I get a 404 error and the character is completely missing from the url.

I have changed the html ‘lang’ attribute to “en” and the encoding section in Settings is utf-8.

How can I fix this?
